Peke, thanks for trying to check this out!
First, populate the now playing with any playlist or any set of tracks ( say one artist, multiple tracks).
Then display a different set of tracks in the main window. A different artist makes it easy to see what happens.
Now with settings set to "play selected only" as opposed to "Clear list and play selected" double click any track in the main window
The entire now playing is still deleted, and replaced with the list of tracks currently in the main window, instead of inserting the double-clicked track into the existing now playing list.
I can achieve the result I want by using right-click, play now. The settings you showed us suggest this can be achieved with a double-click default action.
As previously reported, with play now selected, if you happen to be in shuffled mode, it plays some other track now.
ps This morning I cant reproduce the setting going blank after restart, that may have been a one-time quirk.
