This blank now playing happened to me right after installing latest beta, in list layout. After restarting mm, it seems to be working properly in both layouts

Please capture this intermittent failure to add to the Playing queue in a debug log (step 4b) and attach the log to a Support Ticket: viewtopic.php?t=86643

This will help a developer analyze why this happens on your setup.

Done that - and the behaviour is different.

Defaults set to 'play now'
Playback rules 'play now' set to 'default'

When I now double click or use right click menu the track does play now.
However it does not appear in the 'Playing' tab.

If I add a 'queue next' and 'queue last' these do appear in the playing tab but still without the currently playing track.

I then double click another track it plays now and appears at the top in the playing tab,

If I then double click another track it plays now, but does not appear in playing tab.

It seems to me that the thing to ensure is that any 'play now' action should play the track and it should appear on the playing tab at the top.

thanks

Most likely in options, under player, playback rules, then select "Music" or maybe "Classical" the setting for play now action should be set to "default."
Hi, yes, that is what was happening and I've changed it now as mentioned in my post above. There's now a different issue. Thanks for helping.

Peke is correct, you must have still active in one of those two places the setting "Clear list and play selected and subsequent"

Most likely in options, under player, playback rules, then select "Music" or maybe "Classical" the setting for play now action should be set to "default."

Then of course in "Player" under "default play now action" it needs to be set to "Clear list and play selected only" or "Play selected files only" The second option adds the double-clicked track to the now playing list below the current playing track, and starts playing it.

Then under " General, os integration" the option top right corner should be set to play now.

Build is 5.1.0.2814
I'm doing this in MMW (I'm not sure what you mean by doing it in file explorer). I'm doing the actions in Music > All tracks

Ah. In Playback rules the Play Now action was set to include all subsequent. Changing to 'Play selected files only' does not add all subsequent, so that's great.

However, when I now double click on a track in All tracks it resumes playing the previous track if paused rather than the track I'm clicking on. I have to right click and select Play now to play that particular track. 'Play now' in this case has a different meaning in settings from 'Play now' in the right-click menu of All tracks.

Without clearing the list then double clicking a track has the effect of resuming playback of the current track regardless of which track I double click on. This is counter-intuitive. Is this a bug, or is it supposed to do that?

From a usability point of view it would be helpful if on the Options > Player screen the words 'Default action' said 'Double-click/enter default action' rather than having to mouse over to find out what it relates to.

Also I didn't find the relationship between 'Player' as setting global defaults, and 'Playback rules' as meaning 'override global defaults for content types' at all clear.

thanks

MM have setting for Double click at Tools -> Options -> Player and after that you can further tweak per media Type at Tools -> Options -> Player -> Playback rules.
That doesn't help. I have the settings to 'Play now' and 'Play selected files only'. The issue is that it does play now but adds every single other track after the selection to the playlist. If I select 'queue next' or 'queue last' it adds just that track. I want to be able to play now without adding anything else.

If I double click on a track or right click and play now, that track and everything after it gets added to the queue. How do I stop that? I just want the tracks that I play now, play last, or play next, to appear in the queue.
