Hi UweBo,

There's two main steps - ensure that you have Date Added and create a List View.

Ensure that you have Date Added - ignore this step if it is already present:
1. In the main list, use the View select button (top right of the list in the coloured bar, the bar being mustard yellow in the Material Design skin on my system) to get to the simple List view, which just has one line for each file and plenty of fields across.
2. Right click on any of the column headers (eg Title) to bring up the context menu and select Choose columns / Sort.
3. In the Choose columns dialog, look near the top of the left Columns list, select the Added field and then the Add button in the centre, which will put the Added field into the view. You can use this dialog to move the field up and down on the list, which ends up being left or right on the main display. Ignore the sort option because you'll define that in the next step.

Create a List View sorted by Date Added:
1. In the top right of the coloured bar above the column headers you should see three icons: a funnel/filter icon, the view selection icon and a drop down arrow for the Views dialog, click on the down arrow.
2. In the Views dialog, click on Manage views at bottom.
3. In the Manage Views dialog, click on the <Add new> option at bottom.
4. In the Configure View dialog:
5. Enter a list name into the Name field, I used "Date Added"
6. Ensure that the View Type is List - that gives you access to all of the fields.
7. Delete any sort options already there by clicking on the minus sign next to each displayed sort
8. Click on + to add a sort
9. In the underlined field name area, click on the little triangle at right to get the field list
10. Click on the Added field name, which will select that field.
11. The A..Z at right of the Field name defines the sort order. A..Z will put your newest files at the bottom of the list, but they will also be in the added order which would generally be disc:track, and so naturally represent album contents. That is how I display it.
12. OK outwards. If you make a mistake you can use the Bin icon in Manage Views to delete it and redo.

The Date Added view will now be available from the pulldown or just by repeatedly clicking on the Views button. Note that depending on where you located your Date Added field, you may have to scroll sideways to see it. You can always drag the Date Added field left to put it into the default view if you want.

Cheers
Matt

Preview shows details of a single file. If you see Title it shows which file is being used in Preview.

Thank you for your answer !

In any grid view when i select/click on an album, in the preview window on the lower right i can see the "added" date. I selected added in the >Layout>Preview & Lyrics>Advanced>Choose Fields... among them is "added". There is even different positions & fields possible for music & classical music.

So were does MM 2024 get the added date for the preview window when selecting an album in grid view?

I can see 'added' does work and the info is in the DB but not consistent to use.

But now i can rest with this issue and wait for the results of the ticket you opened and set for 5.2

kind regards !

Lowlander wrote: Tue Oct 08, 2024 1:05 am Yes, Grid view is limited as it's Album based, whereas Added is file based. You can't sort Grid on Added, but list by (Album) and List Views can.

You can create an AutoPlaylist limited to x files sorted on Added. You can set it to Grid, but this will no longer sort on Added.

Matt, since this works for you can you give me a step by step?

Create a new Collection; I have that already inkl. some parameters for trying, but i still say that there is now way to create a Collection which selects the last 100 (or whatever number) Albums by date added to the DB in see the result in Grid View.

I see the multiple options to manipulate List View but they are not available in Grid View.

Better still, define a list view that is configured to do that for you. Creating a list view works best if your usual sort has multiple sort levels and you get tired of recreating the sort.

Sorting on Added is available and has been for a long time. You may need to enable the Added column to do so, or switch to a View where Added can be displayed.

How is this not working for you, screenshots may help explain how?

I downloaded MediaMonkey since iTunes has been basically retired. The new "Apple Devices" doesn't allow editing of songs on the device. MediaMonkey seems to do everything I want, EXCEPT the very basic, must-have ability to sort by Date Added. I can't believe that in 2024, it doesn't have functionality that has been around for decades.
I love the package, but I'm going to have to find something else.

Do you think it could/would be possible to also integrate the Windows file system information "created" and "modified" into the DB for selecting/sorting in MM 2024?
The same/similar as in Tools>Options>Library> Update info from tags... >Only for files with changed time stamp or size

What i am thinking about is when over time a collection has grown the date/time/modified stamps can be important to sort/order the data. Also when a disk change, new computer, new installation of MM 2024 has to be made and the date/time/modified information should be preserved.

I work with that information from the Windows file system and with backup/restore as well. I do that with robocopy were such information can be preserved and restored or transfered to a new disk. For example it would be nice to use the saved date from windows for DB information in MM 2024 to sort by saved date or by modified date to see the latest changes from tagging or so.

kind regards

Yes this does work, yet i would want to have full albums selected.
The same as in my audio player were i have a ready programmed section "most recently added albums" almost on the start screen of the app.
I would like to open MM 2024 and see the latest news so to speak. Latest Artists, Genres, Albums, Bands, Composers...

Also with such an autoplaylist, if you sort by anything there is no way to get back to sort by "added". See for yourself, you can add the sort parameter "added" but only sort by A-Z which does not do anything.
Also if i change the number from 50 tracks to say 500 i get an unrecognisable sort order but certainly not by "added recently"

Somehow what i want i can not get.
Rob_S wrote: Fri Sep 27, 2024 12:43 pm Must be stupid... I am still unsure what you are trying to achive beyond a simple autoplaylist defined as follows ?

Search "Music"
Match all
limit to "50" files selected by "added most recently"
sort by "added"

VIEW Grid by album

This will always show you the most recently added 50 tracks. If you add by full albums, it should show you the most recently added albums

Hello Ian

thank you for the tip with MM4 i will try this ! and also for your suggestion with playlists.

I find that since the function is built in and i can see it, the missing parameters to control the DB selection should be added in MM 2024. Also to have a real "last additions" (for me it is music & albums) but it could also be genres, artists, bands, movies i do not know what else other users would want.

IanRTaylorUK wrote: Fri Sep 27, 2024 6:52 am Hi, there is an example Playlist called "Recently Added" but that also has the criterium of Added <(days ago) nn [PLUS a second limitation based on either megabytes / files or minutes. I do not think you can do exactly what you want currently with MMW 2024.

In MMW4 there is a add-on called Magic Nodes that has a number of options that might be of interest:
  • 20 Latest Albums
    Albums Added in Last 10 Weeks {essential what we have done with a MMW 2024 Collection}
(Complete) Albums with ALL files added in last 3 days
I don't know if this helps, but I create a "Top-Level" playlist for each month (or quarter or year) and add the "Album" playlist below this so it appears withing the top-level playlist. I prefix my Playlist name with a # so it appears at the top of the list in the Playlist node.

For example, "#September2024" contains 40 Playlists for the new albums I have created in the month. I label these as "Album Artist - Album Name".

Next I select the "#September2024" playlist in Devices & Services setting for the mobile phone / tablet. When I sync, I therefore end up with the September 2024 new albums being added to the devices.

One problem is that - if you add another album to the "Top-Level" playlist, you must go back to the sync profile for the device and add the new album from the Sync List / Playlists screen. The quickest way to do this is to uncheck the "Top-Level" playlist and then check the tick box again.

Hope this helps.
UweBo wrote: Wed Sep 25, 2024 12:53 pm Hello Ian

thank you. I did that already but when i do not use MM5 for 14 days or no albums added within that time frame the list is suddenly empty.
New Collection;
What is needed is something like "added" "number" of "albums" > or < "now"
In the colum of the subnode "Album" the function " added" can not be added. I have "date" for sorting but that is the date of publishing.
I just want to see the last "number" of added albums no matter if that is 1 or 300 days ago.

Then
New Playlist;
Entire Library
Match "all" of the following criteria and i am again in the dead end of creating a new collection with the function "added"
Limit to "8000" files > selected by "added most recent"
Sort by "added" "A - Z"
