Using MediaMonkey 5.0.1.2433 on Windows 10 20H2,
When I try to open a file from MM, either:
- from the playlist
- from the library
- from the menu "File -> Open from file or URL..."
it starts playing instantly. However, if I either :
- double click on the file from the file explorer
- right click on the file in the file explorer and select "play now in MM"
there is a ~2 seconds delay between the either action and the beginning of the playback, which is extremely annoying.
Notes :
- all the fade-in / fade-out options are disabled in the plug-in settings.
- Windows Defender is disabled, I also tried disabling my AntiVirus (Avast) (without success)
- MM is already started, so it is not due to a lag of MM starting up
- my library is empty, so the delay cannot be caused by MM's long library update at startup
- my computer is very fast (fresh Windows installation on Rysen 5 5600X / 32GB RAM / M2 Samsung 980 Pro HDD)
- opening a file in VLC via the Windows explorer is instantaneous
- I tried uninstalling / re-installing MM (using CCleaner) (without success)
- I tried running MM as Administrator, I also tried running Win7 compatibility (without success)
- I had no issue using MM4
Related topics (?) :
1 - viewtopic.php?t=54837 however, unlike reported in one comment, when I switch to next track in a playlist, it is instantaneous, it is really just the opening from Windows Explorer which is very slow.
2 - viewtopic.php?t=82611, not solving the issue.

The problem - MediaMonkey is not telling the OS, when a call is made, to check for an existing instance of the program first for properly processing the request. The delay is caused by the OS being unable to launch another instance of MM when 'Allow just one instance of MediaMonkey' is checked (see 1). You can test this by unchecking that option (Tools>Options>General), and you'll find that a request to play/queue another track from Windows File Explorer will open immediately - but only in a new instance of MediaMonkey (see 2).
And indeed, unchecking the option for single instance made MM start a new instance when double clicking on a file in the explorer.

Thank you very much for your help, I am willing to test further experimentations if need be.
