Separating sets of music?

I have a mass of music stored in the monkey's database, a lot of which is my daughter's - is there any way to split these out so that my list of artists isn't polluted by a load of pre-teen pap?

I don't think it will be terribly easy, and I am not sure that MM has an easy way to do this.

Off the top of my head, the easiest way might be to take advantage of the Magic Nodes Script. This would take a bit of work. You'd probably want to create a Custom Tag for the Mp3 files that differentiate your files from your daughter's. You could then utilize this field as a "node" through the Magic Nodes script or use it as a filter for other magic nodes.

If this sounds reasonable, you can go into the Scripts forum and check out the Magic Nodes thread (specifically the more recent Magic Nodes posts as a lot of progress has made this more possible). You can probably even ask a question in that thread just as you did here, and you'd get direct help in setting this up.

The new MM3 beta versions might make this possible through filters without a need for the Magic Nodes, but I'm not sure.

I hope you can get this figured out.

Yes, in MM3 this is is called global filters.

I have gold, and use the auto playlist.

I go through and select all of my wife's music, and right click, go to properties, then hit the classification tab, and put something in the custom1 field.
Once you do that. make a new auto playlist, with the rule that states that, the custom1 field says whatever you put there.
and you could do that for your music too, and use the playlist nodes to keep them separate

To summarize you would use a Custom field to indicate which music is your daughters and use MediaMonkey 3's global filter to not show your daughters music. Filters work in MediaMonkey 2, but don't get lost when restarting MediaMonkey.

MediaMonkey 3 is in it's beta phase and it's progress can be followed in the Beta forum.

The easiest and wisest way to deal with this would be to create two Windows users accounts, one for you and one for your daughter. that way she can keep all her stuff on her account and you can keep all yours on yours. When she runs MM on her account, MM will keep a separate database for her in her account. You can even store her music files in her folders on her Windows account. Here's a quick walk through.

Or you can have one Windows account, and create two databases in MM and use the "SelectLibrary" script to control which to run.

Either of these solutions is easier (and less open to errors or her damaging your database) than other suggestions. But the absolute best is to create two Windows user accounts. That keeps her stuff and your stuff totally separated.

This is precisely what I was looking for when I wandered in here. . . the questions are, however, HOW does one create two databases in MM in the same account, and where would one find the "SelectLibrary" script?

Before I pass on the info, I have to say that the best way to do this is to have two separate Windows accounts. This will always ensure that each MM database, play lists, scripts, etc. are kept separate. However, if you don't' want to do that, proceed with the single Windows account solution.

The program is called "Select library". Do a search to find more info.

Don't forget that you have to create and rename (after exiting MM) each database before you point to it in Select Library.
