Date/Original Date Data Suddenly Missing

Post by ARHenderson »

First off, the basics: system is Win Vista 64 bit, all patches applied. MediaMonkey at rev 3.2.0.1294.

The situation. I have a database of approximately 35,000 tracks and have been using MediaMonkey for 1½ years with no issues. I've been cleaning up tags in my spare time, including populating the 'Date' and 'Original Date' fields with the year of the track's release (eg, 1971, 2009, etc). Tonight when I launched MediaMonkey, these date fields are BLANK in both the browse screen and in the 'Properties' page for the track. However:

-- An examination of the actual music files in Windows Explorer shows the dates are intact and correct in the tag metadata.
-- Creating an Excel report from MediaMonkey shows the correct dates in the year column.
-- Adding or changing a date through MediaMonkey's Properties tab immediately blanks after entry. However, the tags are correctly updated when examined in Windows Explorer.

To remedy (to no avail), I've tried:

-- Rebooting the computer.
-- Reinstalling MediaMonkey.
-- Swapping out the database and ini files from my most recent backup (all files are backed up 3x per week).

Still no date data displays. Any thoughts as to what might be causing this issue?

Thanks,

What format are you using for your dates? I ask because there have been a couple of other posts related to dates in win7/64.

After some more research and trial-and-error, it appears that MediaMonkey does not properly parse all Windows-compliant short-date settings. I had recently made a change to the short date format to ddd d MMM yyyy for use in another application. When I reset the short date format to dd MM yyy, MediaMonkey again displayed dates properly.

What is even more interesting is that the dates are actually processed correctly by MediaMonkey, eg, sort by date works properly, the 'logical' library folders for specific years have the correct tracks in them, etc. MediaMonkey just is unable to display the date data in the properties tab.

I believe I saw a bug thread on this issue when I was researching last evening, but I cannot seem to find it through the forum search. Do you happen to know where the thread is so that I can post this info to that bug thread?

Thanks,
Adam

I am having the same problem. I am new to MM, having arrived as a refugee from WMP 12.

I imported 2600 mp3 tracks into MM, which happened astonishingly fast and with no hitches. I have YYYY values stored in the ID3v2.3 TYER frame for several hundred tracks. These appear sorted into decades in the Year node, but nothing shows in the Date column. I have tried entering every conceivable variation of DDMMYYYY, YYYYMMDD, etc into the Date field in the Track Properties window, but nothing sticks. The field blanks on clicking Update. Original Date behaves in the same way.

I also am using Windows 7/64bit. On the assumption that this is a bug which will get fixed, can you tell me how I will be able to get the 'Date' column to show just years. I do not have any DDMM data.

Many thanks for any light you can shed on this.

This problem is now fixed.

I went into Control Panel>Region and Language to have a look at the Short Date format, in case that had anything to do with the problem. I changed it to dd/MM/yyyy. Regretably, I cannot remember what it was before. While I was there, I noticed that the system locale was English(Australia). I was living in Australia until a few months ago, but I have now returned to the UK, but I had not got around to changing the locale. So I took the opportunity to change the locale to English(United Kingdom). I then rebooted, as instructed,

Lo and behold, on starting MM, there were all my YYYY values from the TYER tags displayed in the Date column. Also, Track Properties will now accept YYYY entries in the Date and Original Date fields, whereas before they just blanked out.

Problem solved!
