How to make WMP Style - Artist-Album-Tracks

Post by Andlit »

I'm really confused. Spent a couple of hours on this forums but still can't get a solution.
I'm switching from WMP12 though I like it's library style but hate it's bugs.

I'm used to viewing my library as a list of ARTISTS only. When I click e.g. Aerosmith - I get list of tracks sorted by Albums with its own album art and can choose any to start with.

In MM (3.2 btw) I can not get the list of ARTISTS only, I always get list of ARTISTS and all their ALBUMS.

I see that it is possible to filter it through "Music Explorer Tree" but that won't do to search all the long list of small letters to find necessary ARTIST. I want to click big ARTIST art in the main window.

Please, help.

Do you mean something like this?

In this case, I had a personalized "Filter" such that it only displays:
  • Album Artists
  • Albums
  • Year
I have not used Windows Media Player for a long time.

No, I think not.
I mean that it seems obvious to look like this

and be able to choose ARTISTS in the main window, clicking big ARTIST arts.

and in MM it looks like this:

Instead of alphabetic order for A: ABBA, ASIA etc. I get ASIA "Aqua", ASIA "Archiva", ASIA "Arena" etc.
And I want just ASIA - double click - list of albums with tracks.

It's a pity, I really consider it very natural and cozy. I wonder how Microsoft managed to do it, they don't seem to be clever like this too often. :)
IMHO it must be easy to make this feature in a new version, so it should go to wishlist.

Well, you can start with right-clicking the library, and add "artist" and "Album" to the tree.
You will then have the artist visible in the tree.
Open it, mark one artist, and start writing the name of the artist you want, and you will be lead to his/hers folder, containing his/hers albums.
