Slow CD rip on new Core i5 & 7240S drive

Hi,

I have set up a new system running a Core i5, Windows 7 64, and an Optiarc 7240s drive. Running shipping version of MediaMonkey Gold.

This is a fast system.

Even so, I seem to be getting fairly slow cd ripping times. I'd say in excess of 5 minutes. This is slower than my previous system. I do not hear the DVD drive spinning up to higher speeds. I have checked the performance options in MM. No change. I can rip and burn a DVD in about 8 minutes. I tested with nero's disc speed tool and all seems good. I can supply report if needed. I tested ripping with itunes and it seemed to indicate 8x read times. MM does't display speed so I can't compare?

It just seems I should be getting better ripping times?

start a support ticket in the support section at the top of the forum page here, i think you need to log in to see that link.

but give the developers your dvd burners spec's they might have to adjust monkey for use in that drive.
and they are getting mm 4 ready to test so nows a good time to get new drive info added in.

in the mean time try ripping to wav files then convert them from on the hard drive.
also turn off the auto volume level or anaylize option in the lower left corner of the ripping panel.

After further research, I seem to have found the problem. I had connected the sata CD drive on the same channel as my primary hard disc which is an SSD drive btw. I moved the CD to another connection/channel. I rebooted and tested with Imgburn. Before I was getting 10+ minute CD rips at a max speed of 4x. After the hardware change I got a 2 minute rip at a speed of 32x!

Looks like this was the problem. I didn't think the shared channel thing was a problem with SATA but apparently it is?

holy crap you just said something i didn't know. sata cd drive. i thought they were all ide cd drives as that is what i got on my system ide cd' and sata hd. the sata hd was on the same controller as the ide cd by way of the contollers for the sata are how the hd is configured for master or slave. took me some time to find that it was on the wrong one once i did that the hd is found now. so since you just inform'ed me about the sata cd drives. that would make sense to watch which controller you plug it in to on the mother board.

glad you got yours working. i can't get my sata drive to boot only in to safe mode, makes no sense to me yet but i'm finding out they switched more then just software for the sata systems. they switched how the software controls the hardware with the way the motherboard is controlling conection of hardware. one small step for man one giant leap for software and to keep things working.
