how do you rename music files with windows?

Post by eb2phkingood »

from the main path, if i want to go in and edit a file, it will let me change the tab that says "Name" however if i want to change the artist or title i have no idea how to do it. i right click on it and there is nothing in properties. if i click rename it just lets me rename the "Name" part again. i cant double click on the title or artist tabs to edit them. im at a loss as to how to rename the original file straight from the path it came from in windows?

and if thats not possible, or even if it is, how do i rename a song/artist/title/album/ ect. and have it reflect the exact same in the original folder/path in windows?

i actually read that first but i must be doing something wrong....

in the original windows My computer folder the info looks like this:
Title: her strut
artist: blank
album: blank
genre: blank
filename: blank

ok i select my WAV file in MM with the correct title, filename, artist, album, genre, ect. then i click auto-tag from filename the format is set up <Artist>-<Title> then i click ok. i then go back to the my computer folder where the song is, and still, there is nothing but the title. all the other fields are still blank. what am i doing wrong lowlander?

P.S it is working fine on all songs that are mp3. but will not work with the only WAV file i have.

Windows explorer only reads mp3 file tag information. It doesn't do it for all file formats, and it definitely doesn't do it for WAV files.

I know that you can auto-tag based on filename, but is there a way to change filename based on a files tags? I imported a ton of music that uses ipod's garbage four-letter filename structure (ex. DJDW.m4a) - each file is correctly tagged (Artist/Song/etc), it's just the actual file names that are gibberish. Kind of annoying trying to work files in explorer view b/c there is no way to know what is what. Thanks!
