whishlist & becnhmarking iTunes 4

Post by cedric »

Hi all!

first, many thanks for MM, its so powerfull (140GB for MP3s and 40GBs for Music Videos, its a lot to manage!!!)

i have many topics to discuss.

Genre: why dont we use parents for defining some large genre and more specific. For the questions of defining two kind of genres, i think its complicated too much complicated. if the music is on the edge of many genres, it must belong to a super genre. but its my idea.

Box or Multi CDs albums: An album can have many discs. actually i used the custom1 field at the level song but it may be cleaner if its a intermediate state between album and songs.

Image: association with an image (at the album level or song level)

ok, i think thats all for my whishlist.

itunei tried itunes and i have to say media monkey is so much better and for ideas, i wil say that the system for rating is better on itunes
also the auto playlist is quite interesting.

my own whish media monkey take a lot of time to load extensive
auto playlist. i have a good example: i make autoplaylist to listen to songs i never listened to. when i load the playlist there is only the song at this time. if i add new songs they will not be in the autoplaylist.
it could light the system if for autoplaylist MM do not load songs but search the song in real time.

some thoughts

Genre
There has been much discussion on the forums about genre's. Some like to have the option to include multiple genre's. A more extensive version of this has been suggested too, whereby each assigned genre would have a weighting number assigned.
Music on the edge that I have often could belong to two (or more) very distinct genre's and not to some form of supergenre.
As for supergenre's, I have suggested a different system whereby the genre's in the files are left the way they are right now. It would just allow to group genre's together under such supergenre in the explorer tree for better visibility.
To assign a song to two genre's could be done easy too in the current system. Just create a name that contains both genre's the song belongs too. An example is Limp Bizkit, they created the new genre Rap Metal, as their songs belong to both Rap and Metal. If you search for genre containing rap these songs from limp bizkit would show up.
This can possibly create quit some genre's and as such I have asked for genre grouping in the explorer tree.
Another example is the latin genre. There are many latin styles and as such I have included latin in each of the substyles so I can search for genre contains latin and find all latin styled songs.

Multi CD
I believe that most users add CD1 or CD2 to the end of the album name to differentiate the different CD's in a multi CD box/album. I'm satisfied with that.

image
This has been requested before in the form of albumart. I very much would like this included in each songfile. The question will be how to display it while MM is playing the song.

Autoplaylist
I'm having a hard time understanding your wish, sorry. Could you explain it differently? I would say that adding files manually to a autoplaylist is not possible as the autoplaylist is basically a saved search.
