support for korean characters?

Okay so MM can display Japanese characters just fine, but not Korean. I haven't tried any other language. I'm using Windows 7. I've tried searching already but just in the context of korean character display. Is MM capable of doing this?

About half of my music collection contains Korean characters in the file names and tags. Everything shows up in MM just fine. I'm using a US version of Windows 7 on one computer and Windows XP on another, both with no language settings tweaks. Japanese and Chinese characters also show up fine for me.

Are you sure the file name and/or tag of each file are actually still in hangeul? Sometimes when I download things from the net they get fouled up, but that has nothing to do with MM.

The filenames look okay from explorer. I've tried to copy and paste the correct names onto the files but they stay the same, as little boxes.

It works fine in fb2k, I guess I'll be using that for now.

Perhaps it has something to do with the mp3 tagging? What is your music tagged as, ID3v1 or 2?

Hmmm 2. But as I said, a lot of times with files that someone else ripped I have to redo the tags. I guess in v2 there are sometimes issues with going from application to application (I'm definitely not an expert)? Redoing them to match the file name is really easy in MM but a little tedious. I've had the same problem with tags in Japanese & Chinese too, not just Korean. Generally the files I tag (or on which I edit the tags) work fine for friends I send them to, as well.

Mine have never shown as little boxes, though....like what is usually seen in XP & previous versions when the East Asian language pack wasn't installed,is that what you mean? I sometimes see a string of punctuation, but in MM's tag editor area I can paste right over it with hangeul or can type hangeul in with the Korean IME. I don't know why you wouldn't be able to, especially since you're using Win7. I even have files with two languages in their title, no problem, like 東方神起 - 주문 -Mirotic-. Sorry I can't help more!

I know what you mean. I'm having similar problems at the moment with Korean characters. However, there's nothing wrong with Japanese or Chinese characters which is really odd.

Any news? A fairly large portion of my music is Korean or Japanese, and I'm having issues displaying native characters for both. Generally I just go through and type in the romanized title but this is extreeeeeeeeemely time consuming.

Something odd, though, is that if I auto-tag from Web, I still get the small boxes rather than the characters. This, to me, says that the tags are not the problem but could instead be the fault of operating system or MediaMonkey. (Using Win. 7 64-bit for those who are interested)

Running MM 3.2.2 here (Win7 Pro, 64bit) and I can see Japanese and Chinese characters fine. Also, I can see them fine in explorer. I had experiences where I see boxes instead of characters in the filename. In those instances, I found out that it was improper encoding (ie. for Japanese characters, the person used GBN (Chinese) instead of Shift-JIS) that was to blame. I had to use mp3tag to correct the tags. Anyways, I never had the case where I can see the characters fine one week and not the next. Are you sure that you have the requisite language packs installed for your Win7? Has your locale changed at all? Currently mine is set for English (United States).

I'm on 64-bit Win7 Home Premium, so I can't install language packs, I can only change the default language, which is set to English (US) and hasn't been touched. I do have Japanese and Korean IME keyboards installed, but that shouldn't have any effect on displaying the characters (though I've turned them on and off just in case and it didn't help). They're still displaying fine in Explorer and in web browsers. The tags were set in MM itself, so I don't think it's an encoding problem. I'm not sure what could have changed. In fact, the filenames themselves show fine in Explorer but as boxes in MM. It seems MM just stopped displaying text in Unicode and is displaying in ASCII instead. I can't find anything related to that in the preferences so I'm not sure what would cause that. Is there a way to force MM to display Unicode?

Annnd I just opened MediaMonkey again and it's displaying Unicode correctly. I didn't even change anything since the last time it was displaying incorrectly. My best guess is this is somehow tied in with the bug that causes MM to sometimes remain open in the systray after exiting, requiring a force quit. It must be fixing itself after a couple of startup scans. I'll try to keep track of what exactly occurs if it happens again. I can live with the bug if it keeps fixing itself though.

Good rule to live by. Just start task manager (ctrl-alt-del) and look for MediaMonkey.exe *32 under processes. Click "End Process" and hopefully whatever engine that handles unicode resets itself when relaunching MM.

Is there any other fixes for this?
Ive tried restarting mediamonkey and that doesnt seem to do anything. Every now and then when i restart my computer the boxes are replaced with proper characters but most of the time its just boxes =(
Surely theres some fix for this...
