how to auto-tag ALL albums at once?

Post by soulfortheman »

as above, i'm using MM Gold, latest version.

having searched for instructions on the net, it seems that i can only do (highlight) 1 album at a time for auto-tagging - is that true?

if not, how can i tag my entire library with a variety of different genres?

thanks!

1b) as a side question - is it possible to have a mini popup whenever i hit global hotkeys to rate a song when MM is not in focus? sometimes i'm not sure whether i hit the keys right, and i need to go back to MM just to check that it's rated.

1c) is it possible to sync MM settings across my computers via dropbox? the most important thing i need to sync are the hotkeys - i don't wanna redo them on every computer that i go to! [p.s. i prefer a syncing method rather than using portable installation over usb drive]

If you want to tag several tracks at once with genre, see:
http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... ilit=genre

There was an automated tagger addon by user Trixmoto called "MusicIP tagger" that could batch tag tracks using PUID, but MusicIP discontinued their service so the addon no longer works. I'm afraid there's no other option with MM at this time.

Check the all scripts thread in the help with addons room here you should find a tagger script in there that works with mm4,
I think though its still only one album at a time,

In mm you have an all accessible files playlist, you can go there and select all songs of same genere and then right click one song you selected, to get properties for all songs then just type in information that is common for all selected songs, check the checkbox to the right of each text area you what on all songs, click okay button, you get all songs tagged then. :D

this is madness, cos i got at least 40,000 songs, out of which 70% have messed up tags that I want to get fixed automatically (doesn't matter even if the auto-tag is not that accurate).

any idea why MM works only for per album and not per library? i don't really understand what's the technical difficulty..

alright, i just did some in-depth research and got this really weird finding :

most, if not all of the song identifiers and auto-taggers are plugins to iTunes only.

e.g. music brainz, tuneup media, song genie.

why is it that there's no standalone version? if i clean up the iTunes metadata, it doesn't mean my idv3 tags are cleaned too right?

Well trixmoto was asking ffor ideas for new scripts and trying to fix his most liked ones maybe he got it to work again or with more then one album? I never used it i like sore arms and fingers so i just typed in all info on my songs took forever too. But some others used it for whole library and got all songs having same info so for you that would be 40,000 copys of same song, talk about massive sore fingers, but doing one album at a time was said to be the way to do it, mm has an auto tag from web feature also but again its best for one album at a time.

Mediamonkey will tag all info on songs and that takes time to do and ram, so 40,000 woul lock up screen for day or two, unless you have 4 or more cpu cores, and unlimited ram, so best to do small groups at a time i tend to do 100 at time for adding common info to them like genere and date.

But mm is faster then any other with huge librarys, just forget how other programs do stuff read options for mm and ask you will see mm is best way to organize library and tags,
I dont think the id3 tags will be messed with itunes has so many cause itunes is junk. Mm has way to clean id3 tags if needed look under tools menu.

in terms of processing power, there's nothing to worry about. i'm using a quad-core i7 overclocked processor with 16gbs of ram - more than enough for any app to chew.

i understand this is a MM forum - but if u guys have suggestions for other apps that can do this perfectly, i'd be grateful!

There are lots of apps that do this, I don't know of any that are free.

One is Jaikoz: http://www.jthink.net/jaikoz/

I have tried it and was not impressed with the results it gave me. Lots of mistakes or tracks that it did not identify. I think the reason that this is not implemented in MM is because it's impossible to get it working at a high enough success rate. In my case it has been less time consuming to do each album individually than mess around with any "automagical" tagger.
