If you want to auto increment filenames with track numbers you use <Track#:2>, but this is an example of part of one field being based on another field. Is there a way to number album "folders" by an auto increment instruction in the auto-organize subdirectories field without it being based on another field (since there is no album # field)?
You can do this in some file renamer programs by just switching between files and folders.

There is <Auto Number> you can use in Auto-Organize Files. However it would not result in unique numbers between sessions so you'd end up with files being reorganized everytime.

Re: A way to auto increment album folder #s in auto-organize
I thought I used auto-number to rename some filenames in auto-organize recently. Though, I'm thinking I could be wrong about the way it seemed to work.
I can't remember now what I did exactly. I will try to recreate in the next couple of days (busy now) and get back with resolve.
But I really can't imagine it working wth the folders.

and so on..........
- You would grab all files from several albums in order according to column selection (like year or custom column)
- You would tick "Move and rename....." (so the new path is the same as old path)
- The destination field is automatically filled in from the tag and then you append "<Auto Number:2> <Album>\<Track#:2> <Title>" to it.
- check delete emptiy folders
The problem is that <Auto Number:2> does creates a unique number for each track's path.Lowlander wrote:There is <Auto Number> you can use in Auto-Organize Files. However it would not result in unique numbers between sessions so you'd end up with files being reorganized everytime.
If there was some way to tell it to <Auto Number:2> <Album>\<Track#:2> <Title>,
but where you could write an instruction at the digit part of auto-number telling it to name the album part of the path for the first 10 tracks the same: as "01" and the next 9 tracks the same: as 02 and the next 11 tracks the same: as 03 and so on.....
I'm thinking the language does not allow for this type of instruction.

There isn't as Mask is file dependent. The only way to achieve this with Auto-Organize Files is to get the number from a tag (like Custom field) in MediaMonkey.
