Re: Tag - How to turn off automatic tags updating
Tools > Auto-Tag from Filename is a manual operation that you use on selected files and you configure how it reads the folder/filename. Infer File Properties is the automated method on scanning of files.
Changing settings in either has no affect on tags already in the Library (it won't fix any mistakes).

Re: Tag - How to turn off automatic tags updating
Hello Lowlander
"Tools / Auto-tag from filemane" and its option "Update empty fields only" ticked is not a panacea!
I've just finished the tagging of 84 tracks, all of them concerning pieces composed by J. S. Bach.
The tags "COMPOSER" where updated (as J.S. Bach) with the "Proterties" dialogbox.
The others tags were directly updated in the main screen.
I frequently controlled that "Update empty fields only" was ticked.
And in spite of all this attention, from time to time I observed that
- some "COMPOSER" tags had been changed in "Jean Sebastien Bach";
- some others tags had been changed according to the name of the track.
I've noticed that some initial tags were empty.
So I'll continue the tagging of my tracks following this process:
1 - all empty tags will be complemented with "_";
2 - all "COMPOSER" tags will be updated using the "Proterties" dialogbox;
3 - all remaining tags will be manually updated in the main screen.

Re: Tag - How to turn off automatic tags updating
Hello Lowlander.
MM is driving me crazy!
After a session of updating tags, I saw a problem.
I begun to prepare a new post and I wrote this:
<< My mind is made up: until proven otherwise the tag management made by MM is erratic.
During my today's session of updating tags I regularly checked if the option "Update empty fields only" were ticked.
Or when I came back to the series of 84 J. S. Bach's tags I've updated yesterday, I saw that a lot of tags had changed! >>
Just to give you the English name of the concerned tags, I turned the interface language from French to English.
I restarted MM with its English interface, and I saw that the Bach's tags were now correct.
I immediately switched to the French interface... and checked the Bach's tags. They were good.
For your information, the modified tags, or apparently modified tags, were "COMPOSER" and "GENRE".
When I tell you that MM is driving me mad!
And you could think that I'm telling anything, or worse, that I'm lying to you.
I begin to think that the only way to solve the problem is to provide my MM.db file or even my the executable files!
What do you think about it?

I don't fully understand what you're doing. I've not seen issues like you describe myself or being reported. My best guess it's user error.
You're always free to send a debug log (step 4b) to support for the developers: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=69

Hello Lowlander.
I've forgotten something which could be important.
A "TITLE" tag had changed (or apparently changed):
This tag has had two states, say, "tag1" and later "tag2".
You have already understood that "tag2" had turned into "tag1".
I imagine that MM keeps all the states given to any tag... and can mixed the data when it displays them.
I languish for your opinion.

Re: Tag - How to turn off automatic tags updating
No, MediaMonkey doesn't keep old values for tags. Once you change it is changed in the database too and no record of old values is kept.

Re: Tag - How to turn off automatic tags updating
Hello Lowlander
I'm fed up with MM.
This morning, just before begining a new tagging session, I had a glance at the tags made yesterday.
As a result, I found that the tags of 16 folders had been changed.
The modifyied tags are: COMPOSER, ALBUM ARTIST, CONDUCTOR, ARTIST and ALBUM.
My last try will be to correct these tags with Metatogger, to use MM as a player and to check if it is continuing to amend the tags at its discretion.
I hope you will find a way to control the beast.
If not, I will be obliged to abandon MM.
Even if I'm very grateful for your attempt to help me.
Very cordially
André

I don't see how this can happen and you're the only one having this issue. Without a debug log it's unlikely the developers can figure out what you're doing.

Re: Tag - How to turn off automatic tags updating
Hello Lowlander and Pike.
Sorry for my slow answer,
but I spend all my spare time tagging my numerous tracks with Metatogger.
So I haven't looked at the forum for a long time.
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Lowlander:
How can I provide you a debug log?
Peke:
Is your "sample file" a copy of MM.DB?
Lowlander and Peke:
How can I send you a debug log and this MM.DB file (45.2 Mo)?
Would'nt be better to directly use my PC ?
1 - It's possible to give the control of a PC to another one
(even if I've never studied this) and I would agree to do so;
2 - does it exist a tool to record all my actions and the reactions of MM?
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
To tell you the size of MM.DB, I searched it in C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey
(by the way the version is 4.1.5.1719, installed - how can I say that - in "normal mode").
I didn't find it!
I searched all the system disk (C: of course) and I've found this file in the following folder:
C:\Programmes - portables\MediaMonkey 4.1.2.1706 mode Portable
As you can see I've installed it in the portable mode.
Historically, I've first installed MediaMonkey in the portable mode.
When you told me that the first action to do was to update MM, I did it but I missed to ask the portable mode!
So I have two versions installed, even if I only use the "normal 4.1.5.1719" version.
Now, three questions:
1 - Is there any conflict beetwen the two versions (I don't imagine how and why, but I'm not a MM specialist (smile)) ?
2 - Is the MM.DB created by the "portable MM" used by the "normal MM"?
3 - If not, how does the "normal MM" save the information?
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
Thank you for beeing so involved in the resolution of this trouble.

Hello Lowlander.
I'm back and I've made my homework... I'd better say "my tests".
It took me a long time, but now I have some (big) files to send you.
I hope you will find them at the following address:
https://share.orange.fr/#7OACaszpqF1507321370
In the first place, I suggest you to open the "z MM - Test.zip" file
which contains the "MM -Test.doc" file describing my tests and their results.
For each test I've made, there is "Record xx.avi" file.
As you've already guessed each "Record xx.zip" file contains a "Record xx.avi" clip...
which is rather long to download.
The last file ("MediaMonkey - DebugView (...).log") contains one debug file, corresponding to the last test I've made.
The link between each test and each file is clearly stated (I hope so) in the "Word" file.
I wish you courage to read my indigestible text written in poor English.
Very cordially

Hello Lowlander.
Did I send them to support? I tried and I failed!
The support ticket page asked me to log in and, as my attempt with my member user name and password failed,
it seemed to me that I needed a specific registration.
I clicked the link "register here"... and I was dropped to the main forum page where I didn't see any other way to log in, except as a member.
I returned to the support ticket page and tried the "Lost password" link: as a result I've changed my member password!
And I still can't log in the support ticket page.
Sometimes I ask myself if I'm stupid... Please, do not answer this question!
What didn't I understand?
