delay before playing

I've been using MM for about 8 years and have never seen this before. Recently I'm getting approximately a 15 second delay between double clicking a song (or single click then play button) and the song actually beginning to play. About half way thru the delay, the msg "reading tracks....." shows up. Subsequent songs (as in a playlist, continuous, etc) have no delay. There is no delay when starting a song in the "now playing" window. Any ideas?

Make sure 'Play Now' Action is set to one of the selected only options under Tools > Options > Playback Rules.
