How to reinstall MMW after clean installation of WIN10

Post by frs1966 »

Hi,
what is the best way to move with my complete media collection with 200 GB of music, films, audiobooks, videos, podcasts, etc. to a new Computer?
With all MMW adjustments.
Both PC'S have WIN10. I always use newest MMW beta, German Gold version.
And I already make a backup.

Thanks for kind assistance.
Frank

Check this out

If all your media files are on C:\, you'll have to copy over to new drive. You could use a PC transfer cable or take the drive out and hook it up
to the new PCs mobo temporarily (way faster) [BIOS may reset to that drive, if you have commercial PC you might not be able to get to proper
BIOS settings to reset]. If it's on its own drive, you can just remove it and install it into the new PC and proceed to the above.

ok, thank you for reply.

Sorry, but I have to revise above written text.
I do not move to another PC, I want to make a complete new clean Windows 10 installation on same PC because of several software problems.

If everything is the same (media drive and/or c:\ drive, same copy of WIn.), you should be able to just redo everything, provided you
have all your media files, key MM files backed up (.DB, .ini, .registry) and lic. key handy.

Just reinstall erverything > insert/replace backed up key MM files before launching > launch and input lic. key

Same instructions apply. If you move to a new PC or reinstall on the same PC, the same applies.

Sorry, this is the first time I do this.

yes, Win and file are all the same.

But what do you mean with this?

key MM files backed up (.DB, .ini, .registry) and lic. key handy.

and

insert/replace backed up key MM files before launching

?

It's just generally good practice before you do anything major (like this) to back up
the key MM files (it's the whole point of being able to get everything back, otherwise it makes the moving
instructions
, as Lowlander clarified above, moot):

Mediamonkey.DB
Mediamonkey.ini
Mediamonkey.registry

Where to Find
under section:
Here are the default locations of these files:

The most essential is .DB (as it is your database) but others are important if you want all settings restored.

ok, thank you.

I have a backup of the mentioned files. At what time I have to replace these database files?
Before downloading MMW? Or after that? Or after music scanning with MMW?

And what about all the other data in this MediaMonkey file? Also fill in?

Unfortunately I forgot to backup all my playlists. Are they also saved in these database files?
If not, can I sync them back or import them from MMA (1.1.3.0529 pro) at my Smartphone (Sony Z5 Android 5.1.1)?

Same question for to the codec pack (m4a, etc.) I bought. The download link is invalid now.

Thanks for your kind assistance.

Playlists are part of the database.
FYI

* You need to save them/backup before downloading MM:
- reinstall Win > Download MM (don't launch) > In new MM, go to same folder you found them in when they were in old MM >
replace new file equivalents with old ones that you backed up > follow moving instructions (above link)
frs1966 wrote:And what about all the other data in this MediaMonkey file? Also fill in?
You mean the MM "folder"? You don't need to worry about much else. If you have extra skins you can back those up and move them over later.
You'll need to reinstall your add-ons if you have any (another reason .ini is important to have backed up)

Works fine here:
Try it again and see if still acting up

Wow, that worked. Thank you very much for your help.
I was little afraid because of the forgotten playlist backup.
I had some problems, because approx. 20 audiobook and music files have not been found by the system "the medium 'BOOT' is not layed in. ........."
But these few I solved by hand.

But honestly, for a software laymen with an average english knowledge, a complete media move with 200 GB data is not easy to handle with MediaMonkey.
:-)

Still one problem:
The sync does not work. Before WIN10 Clean Installation, everything was ok. My Sony Z5 is still shown and enabled at MMW External Devices.
Via USB, the sync bar freezes immediately after start. I can work with MMW, but no progress in sync.
Via WIFI: tapping at the MMA (1.1.3.0529 Pro) sync tile in the main menu, either endless "Connecting" or "Connection failed".
Via "Options" - "Select Sync Server" only endless "Searching".

What can I do?

second question: I load the code pack, but in MMW Extensions it is only mentioned as Trial Version.

Thank you in advance.

If you learn to use Backup 6.0 you should find it pretty easy if there is a next time. This allows you to backup your database and reg settings. It creates a restore.vbs routine which will restore automatically. All you have to do is copy the directory (or optionally zip file) off main drive.

The Backup wasn't the problem, everything is running. Also, its even more rare to make a complete new set up of the PC.

The sync MMW<->MMA doesn't work now!

Problems Syncing Sony Z5

[I suggest this be moved to Device Synchronization forum as, Problems Syncing Sony Z5]

Focus only on the direct USB for now (if you have it running as a server, disable for now):
So, it recognizes the device but freezes up immediately?
Your phone isn't tapping out of space is it?
Have you tried it both by opening MM first then connecting device and connecting device then opening MM?
Have you rebooted your system since you first tried syncing.

Is that something you are trying to do in MM (options) or on the phone, sounds like the phone?

I'm not sure about that as I never had the need to purchase it. Maybe someone else with a similar experience can answer or try searching the
forum :-?. It might be that even with Gold, the trial notification still shows until it gets past the 30 day period and then disappears. I don't know.

Sync: suddenly its working, I do not know why.
Codec Pack: maybe you are right, I will wait what happens after the trial time.

Thank you very much for our help, MMFrLife.

Another point, maybe you have an idea:
:D
since I started with MMW and MMA, the volume levelling does not work, most songs have different volumes, although volume levelleng is enabled at all devices and I run volume analysis several times. Most of my AAC/m4a from Apple are ok, but mp3 are all different, most of them are much lower than the m4a Songs.

I wrote several topics, but Lowlander always move them at the end of older threads, so it will be ignored.
I sent log files from my Smartphone to Ventis without any response.
As you can imagine, this is annoying, especialy when you listen with headphones. And I listen a lot of music.

Even now, same problem after complete new clean WIN10/MMW installation and deletion/reinstall of MMA and MMA pro and formatted/new synced SD Card.

Do you have an idea?

Thank you
Frank
