Moving music library
Hi
Just wanted to be sure im doing this correct.
I need to move my music files to another location on the harddrive.
Is this done with a right click on the library folder in media tree and choose send to folder (move) and then choose a folder in the new location?

Re: Moving music library
You do not need to do that, you simply Browse files you want to move to new location and after you select them right click and use Auto organize files option to Move them to new location according to destination mask (Use F1 to open Online Help).
Feel free to ask more if you need any help about Auto organize.
NOTE: Preview of destination path and filename according to filename mask is shown in realtime so that you can tweak it to your liking.

The thing is that i want to move the main library folder which includes all the subfolders. So its not only single tracks.Peke wrote:You do not need to do that, you simply Browse files you want to move to new location and after you select them right click and use Auto organize files option to Move them to new location according to destination mask (Use F1 to open Online Help).

I like to keep the folder structure as it is in my library already, but just move it to another location. Can i manage this from inside MM or should i just copy paste the library folder in windows explorer?

Re: Moving music library
Make sure the location you're moving the files to is also monitored by MM, then just move the files over. MM will automatically update the file location in your library.
Re: Moving music library
Hi,
Another option is to Move Folders outside MMW an then Use File -> Locate Moved/missing tracks on your whole library so that MMW update it to new path.
that approach would just make duplicates not move library.mrhollywood360 wrote:Make sure the location you're moving the files to is also monitored by MM, then just move the files over. MM will automatically update the file location in your library.
If you want to retain folder structure teh same then in Destination mask you simple add "<Folder>\<Filename>" and add destination drive letter "d:\<Folder>\<Filename>" or use browse button to navigate to root path of your new structure and you can check preview if you are satisfied with destination result.monape wrote:The thing is that i want to move the main library folder which includes all the subfolders. Send To > Folder, does not maintain existing folder structure, it just add all files to that folder.
Either use Auto-Organize Files as suggested or Cut & Paste the Folder from the Media Tree to the new destination.

If i use auto organise, do i choose the main library folder in the media tree? Or the "All" folder or do i select all songs in the library view?Lowlander wrote:Send To > Folder, does not maintain existing folder structure, it just add all files to that folder.

I mean, what is the first step in this process?

Re: Moving music library
MediaMonkey monitors the folders for changed/moved files. So if the current directory and the new directory are both monitored and MM is open while you move the files it will update the library. I used this approach to move my library and it worked flawlessly.Peke wrote:that approach would just make duplicates not move library.mrhollywood360 wrote:Make sure the location you're moving the files to is also monitored by MM, then just move the files over. Step 1 is selecting the files you want to be moved. Any which way you want to select them works.

I tried with <Folder>\<Filename> mask. But how do i change the mask so destination looks like this "C:\Users\EAU\Music\Music Library\(subfolders)" ?
Re: Moving music library
If you have read the Online help you would see if you want to cut current path to some extend us filter numbers eg. "<Folder:3>\<Filename>" and when you add/browse your new main path you get "C:\Users\EAU\Music\<Folder:3>\<Filename>" that would get you the right destination. It is easy just press F1 when you edit Destination mask.monape wrote:I tried with <Folder>\<Filename> mask. Re: Moving music library
I almost figured it out. By using auto organise and configure iits easy to set a path and copy or move the library to a new chosen directory.Peke wrote:If you have read the Online help you would see if you want to cut current path to some extend us filter numbers eg. But after doing this i compared the two main directories and it seems the "new" directory has less files than the "old" one. So its not copying all of the files from the "old" directory. Maybe its not copying image files or text files or other non related music files?
Re: Moving music library
Associated Art files, log files and Lyrics files should be moved (there is a confirmation for that). However if you want everything moved a Cut & Paste of the Parent folder in the Location/My Computer node is the easiest method.

I also need to open "add/rescan files to the library" and set a new path for the new location right?
