Dragging from MM5 directly into audio editor [#14429][#16545]

Post by tbm72 »

In MM4 one feature that I often use is to drag a track directly from MediaMonkey into a DAW or audio editing program (e.g. Audacity). In MM5 I don't seem to be able to do this.

I can drag it from MM5 onto the desktop (which makes a copy of the file) and then open and edit that. But I'm then working with a copy that I have to move back into it's original location if I've made any changes. In MM4 it's a much quicker workflow.

Is there any reason this feature is working differently in MM5?

Hi,
This is known issue.

Drag and drop from MM5 to other apps that do not support universal URI format and we are working to fix that and improve compatibility.

Since this is being worked on, something to note is that dragging and dropping multiple tracks onto the desktop (or another folder) simply creates a playlist.m3u8 file in the destination instead of copying the files. I think this is nice, but having a way to copy multiple tracks into a folder might be useful as well.

I uploaded many addons to MM's addon page, but not all of those were created by me. "By drakinite, Submitted by drakinite" means I made it on my own time. "By Ventis Media, Inc., Submitted by drakinite" means it may have been made by me or another MediaMonkey developer, so instead of crediting/thanking me, please thank the team. You can still ask me for support on any of our addons.

Can't drag files from MM 5 to another program

Post by mdw1968 »

Can't drag and drop files from MM 5 to another program, such as Audacity. One program I have, MP3Gain, displays an error when trying to do so:

Error 461 in IstvMain_OLEDDragDrop (ListViewCtrl) : Specified format doesn't match format of data

There's a thread about the same issue here: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=97531

I noticed the changelog of today's update (2291) mentions this issue as fixed (https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=14429) but drag and drop still isn't working from MM5 to my DAW or apps like Audacity.

Oh OK, looks like it can't be fixed then. That's a shame as it's something I use a lot in MM4. If you do manage to find a way to implement it in the future that would be great.

MM5 is looking great by the way, thanks for all the hard work! I'm almost ready to make the switch over from MM4 :)

That's great, thanks so much! That's probably the last thing that I need to make the switch to MM5 full time now :)

Just tried on the latest RC2 build - all works perfectly when dragging tracks into other apps! I tested using Cakewalk By Bandlab (my DAW) as well as Audacity and Ocenaudio editors and also XYPlorer file manager. Thank you so much for fixing this issue! :)
