A problem hides after a combination of steps in MM5 build 2291 that makes MM5's active screens to start blinking like crazy. The mentioned steps are as follows:
1) First, node is Type "Classical Music" > "Composer" with List (By album) active.
2) I select all tracks from an album baddly ripped (in this case, track titles were missing) for Auto-tag them.
3) The auto-tagging screen opens, and I configure FreeDB as a source. The auto-tagging process starts. Now I get a second MM5 window open, on top of the main one.
4) I reactivate MM5 main screen and, in another tab, I choose another record and start playing it.
5) MM5 starts playing but the two windows start to blink maddly.
To replicate this, the order of the steps is needed because when you start playing first, the auto-tag process goes right.

3) Freedb isn't a source for Auto-Tagging, instead it's for CD Lookup only.
3a) Do you open the Options from the Auto-Tag window?
3b) Do you mean a full MediaMonkey interface opens on top?
3b) At what specific action does this window open?
A debug log (step 4b) send to Support may be best as it would show exactly why this occurred: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=86643

Re: Fast blinking screen and crash
I have got ID 3C804969 debug log, but that after aborting MM with Cntrl+Alt+Del and Windows Task Administrator, so I doubt that it is related. The problem is that when the blinking starts you loose control, and I have not wait to see what is going to happen later since MediaMonkey continues to blink.
Thank you for the clarification regarding FreeDB. I have made some other tests and the Dbase choice has nothing to do with this issue (it happens equally with MusicBrainz, FreeDB (CDDBP), FreeDB (HTTP)).
3a) Yes, I open the options from the Auto-Tag window.
3b) I mean, Auto-Tag windows opens on top of MediaMonkey interface but it does not cover it completely so, in order to find somthing to play somewhere else in the Library, I can still bring MediaMonkey interface to the front clicking on one of its still visible borders. The Auto-Tag window, from this moment, goes to the back. The blinking seems to be a struggle between both window to display on the front plane.
Once you start playing any track, the blinking starts.

Re: Fast blinking screen and crash
I'm unable to reproduce a blinking effect for Auto-Tag when bringing the main window to the front. With or without a file playing. Auto-Tag also remains showing the correct information.
There may be more specifics involved, something a debug log may reveal. A screencast could also be very helpful in this case.

Hi, Lowlander
Please find in the following link a ZIP file with the last Log and a short video of the issue. The video is rather slow and does not show properly the fast blinking at the end.

Hi,
1. Blinking is added as https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=17327
2. Crash report is added at https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=17326 and it looks like timeout of closing MM5
