2283 - observations

Post by Barry4679 »

I didn't notice Release Candidate 2 (version 2283) until today. It seemed to arrive silently by overwriting the previous release instead of creating its own thread entry.

It looks very good. I have played with it for a couple of hours, and it has not let me down yet. I am still running the debug version, but even that performs well.

Observations:
  1. I firstly uninstalled the previous version. Windows was unable to complete the install, even though I had closed all versions of MM.
Something seemed to be holding a reference to DeskPlayer.dll... and that seemed to be (part of?) the reason that Windows could not complete the uninstall.
  2. No response from the "Add to library" option in Folder node's context menu.
    Steps:
    • Using Folders Node, select some tracks that have not yet been added to the MM db
    • take option "Add To Library" from the context menu
    • ==> there is zero response, which is unexpected ... other avenues which add tracks to the MM db have a completion dbox advising of success|failure
    • [spoiler alert] ... the tracks were successfully added, but there should be a completion notification
  3. Dbox which opens underneath MM UI, gives the appearance that MM has hung.
I still see this occasionally. It has been a persistent problem with MM5. .. it is mostly (always?) the 1st time that the dbox has been displayed for the session ... or maybe the 1st time it has been displayed since I installed the current copy of MM.
    It happened here today.
    There are two workarounds.
    • minimise all apps to the task bar (WinKey+D) ... and then re-maximise MM5 ... but you have to know to do that, or something similar
    • the other option is click|click|click|wait|swear ... assume that MM5 is buggy ... kill off MM5, and restart it with diminishing enthusiasm
Isn't there some way to create a watchdog thread to detect and autocorrect this?
  4. Some unhelpful album art thumbs in AlbumArtist sub-node.

See these albumartists; each have at least one album. the thumb that you have generated for them is not one of their albums. It is a composite album, where they have a single track ... that track lists the artist in the artist tag, but not in the albumartist tag.
Could you preference an AlbumArtist's thumb image from their own albums, not from a composite album? ... ie. somewhere where they have an albumartist tag.
There are many instances of this in my library. It has a chance of happening whenever the albumartist has tracks within a composite album ... It is not obvious where the albumartist has less than 4 albums of their own.
  5. Here's one just for drakinte. ... something to assist his Personal Project for the Pixel Perfection :D
Watch the middle paragraph ... there seems to a size difference between those two tabs.
  6. This toggle control should be radio buttons.
This part of the UI is more complex than most parts. There are 5 View Elements. Three of the are options, and the other two are a toggle.
It would be more clear if the toggle was implemented as radio buttons.
Want a dark skin for MM5? This is the one that works best for me .. elegant, compact & clear.
