The speed of Nodes opening to show sub nodes has become more sensitive as you drag over the top of them.
The speed that the Nodes drop open has increased significantly to the point that dragging and dropping a node or sub node to an alternate location can almost open up all the nodes before you can get to the point of dropping it where you want it to be.
Then you have to close them all before you can proceed to another node to drag and drop.
My wife said is "was very frustrating" for her also.
It can also due to the inconsistency/speed of the drop down lead to uncertainty if the node was dragged to the new location correctly.https://youtu.be/AAyHVwVXaLg

You are doing this in the Folder node?pip_pill wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 4:51 pm 5.0.2.2524

I would not use the Media tree as both the Source and Target for this type of operation. It is not fit for use, and I agree with the both of you regarding frustration with it.
Try this (reads long, but is relatively simple, and it the only narrow path that I found that is fit for use in MM5 IMO):
- go to the Folder node
- start navigation to your source folder
- this triggers display of the recursive control ... turn it off (plus sign imbedded in the icon, nor a cross sign)
- open the dropdown View menu (2 icons to left of the recursive control)
- select View By Album, and check the Tree (folders) View Element
- that opens an imbedded folder tree inside the main panel ... use this to select the source for your cut or copy
it is independent of the Media Tree in the left panel (ie. you won't get that confusing jerking around during your paste operation) ... and also it is a heap better for navigation because it scrolls helpfully when type a starting letter or two during navigation
- that opens an imbedded folder tree inside the main panel ... use this to select the source for your cut or copy
- now use the Left hand Media Tree panel to navigate to your Drop target folder
- don't click on anything other than your mouse scroll wheel (if it has one), or the vertical scroll bar, or the the little arrow heads which open folders
- if you click on any folder name you relocate position in the centre panel ... ie The Media Tree re-positions the centre panel, but the tree in the centre panel is independent of the Media Tree in the left panel
- One annoying thing is that MM5 does no conform to convention ... a right click is seen a navigating selection ... so if you need to create any new sub-folders in the target, you need to do that before positioning to the target in the main centre panel, because that is done via the right click menu
- to overcome this annoying behaviour I normally have two tabs open in the centre panel, one for source, and another one so that the Media Tree has got something to jerk about, other than my source panel
- so after all that setup we are ready to start
- select the source tracks in the centre panel ... once you are narrowed down, close to where you want to copy from, turn recursive back on, if it helps
- select whole albums by clicking on the artwork cell ... start a copy or paste operation
- if you are doing more than one operation, switch to your sacrifice centre panel tab, so your source view is not altered by the next step
- paste directly onto the folder in the left hand media tree, not the centre panel

Pip_pill,
Thanks for the report. Tracked at https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=18667
(I think that it's different than what Barry is raising which is tracked at https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=15664 ).

What I am trying to cover is that there are often multiple alternate paths to achieve a task in MM5.rusty wrote: ↑Mon Dec 13, 2021 10:26 am (I think that it's different than what Barry is raising which is tracked at https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=15664 ).
Sometimes the alternate paths do not offer an equally successful comfortable experience IMO.
Copy & Paste, and cut & paste, are an example of this.
My experience with these operations in MM5, is that there is a very narrow path that gives a satisfactory user experience.
