Chromecast Issue Resuming Music [#19261]

Post by MyVikes »

I have seen a problem where i will be chromecasting to a device from MM5 v5.05.2656 and earlier where if I pause the music for a period of time, say an hour or two, and then try to resume MM is not able to find the chromecast device and i get a popup message saying the device is offline. I'm able to play the music to the internal server and even chromecast to another device.

I might suspect it's the device, and it could be, but I can chromecast to the device MM reports as offline from other music sources like my phone, etc. and shutting down MM5 and restarting it resolves the issue.

I've searched the forum and i can't find something that matches my issue. Is this a known issue and/or does anyone else see this?

Hi,
Yes, device puts itself to standby. It is suggested that you instead of pause which asks for playback resume, use stop music as it will then re request device connection and playback start.

Simple devices mostly do not keep playing buffer for that long of time.

Ha....after weeks/months of dealing with this i actually coded a stop just this week to see if that would make a difference but while waiting for some time to pass to determine if it fixed it i thought i'd post a message.

But knowing this problem is specific to these types of device i'll code a stop only in the case where the active player is not internal.

Well hopefully someone finds this useful. Thx Peke!

WOW...i just discovered "multi-zone". This is a great feature that solves an unrelated problem i've had for whole house audio. I'd seen it in the list of player options but had never explored (makes me now wonder what other awesome features are there i haven't discovered yet :D ).

That said, i did solve the original problem (well time will tell if i did for sure) by "stopping" the playback. I also store the track position and when i restart playback the song will resume from there so effectively it's a pause. :-)

But i think i found a slight quirk within MM5 (well i think so maybe) with multi-zone use. When i hit play in MM5 with multi-zone select both players start but when i hit pause within MM5 only the playback on the remote device stops and the internal player does not pause. Hitting stop does stop both. Is this by design for the same reason i started this thread and if so, it almost seems backwards meaning the pause and could you not handle it by storing the progress as i am and when restarting? I understand that could be a preference as in my case and a stop may not be what everyone wants.

Hi,
THX for report, I can replicate Pause behavior in my multizone.

Added as https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=19261

FYI I prefer STOP over the PAUSE as that way I free and clean sound card buffer and allow other devices to be normally used.
