Click & drag issue when releasing mouse button [#19352]

Post by tbm72 »

If you have (for example) an album's tracks in view and click & drag to select them all from bottom to top, when you release the mouse button it clicks on the column header and sorts the view on whatever area the mouse was over when you release the left button. So for example:

1) Click on an album to display its tracks
2) Click and drag to marquee select all tracks from bottom to top
3) Release the mouse while it's over the column header

It can be annoying because I often find that while trying to click and drag multiple tracks I accidentally re-order the view just by releasing the mouse even though I haven't actually clicked on the column header.

I can confirm, this seems to always happen: https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=19352

Hi tbm72,

my view is that click and drag to select is not the best and most reliable tool in MM5.
This works fine for me in tools like Windows Explorer, but not so good in MM5. I find that there is a micro lag and mini-stutters that make this operation, and dragging using the mouse, a dodgy proposition in MM5.

The image that you posted looks like you are in List by Album View.

This is how I do this kind of thing in MM5:
  • click the album art ==> this selects all tracks for the clicked album, even any the tracks are folded out of view
  • to add more albums, Ctrl+Click the art of other albums
  • to exclude any tracks, Ctrl+Click those tracks of any albums where you have already selected all tracks by steps above
  • when you have assembled everything that you want, right click any one of the selected tracks, and take the Copy option from the menu
  • then right click the target location, and select the paste option
I find this to be a whole lot more reliable with MM5

If the items that you want to select are contiguous, use Shift+Click on the last album to be selected, instead of the Ctrl+Clicks on all the individual albums.

If you want to select all tracks in any list, use Ctrl+A to select all tracks.
Want a dark skin for MM5? This is the one that works best for me .. elegant, compact & clear.

Thanks Barry467 - that's true and I do tend to use things like clicking the album art or Ctrl+A sometimes but muscle memory often gets the better of me and I've already click dragged!

Still, the more things like this are reported and fixed, the more likely it is to improve.
