Chromecast broken for me in 2675 [#19512 #19513]

I was using build 2675 today to play some mp3 tracks through my chromecast speakers and it kept crashing every few songs. Sometimes partways into the first track played. Messages at bottom such as speaker is turned off or disconnected, speaker cannot decode this track, and sometimes tracks would restart, sometimes program would totally freeze and require task manager end-task, restart, etc

I was using direct sound, so I tried switching to wasapi plugin - no difference

I was going to blame this on some windows updates done yesterday, but finally I got thinking it was working so well in recent versions, so I re-installed build 2670, and everything is working just fine again.

So, something is broken in 2675 that was good in 2670. I hope the next build fixes it again!!

Thanks for the report.

I've been able to replicate the problems but only very rarely and not as severely. When I replicate the 'toast' errors (re. Chromecast unavailable / Codec issue) playback generally continues without issue. Tracking at:

Does it occur often for you (I suppose so if you had to revert to an earlier build)? What Chromecast speaker are you using?

Lastly, would you mind generating a debug log of this with the debug build and send us the crashlog ID as well (as outlined at at: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewt ... 30&t=86643 ) ? That way we'll know if the issue you're experiencing is the same as the one that I am (OR you can just wait until we fix the issues as they occur on my system and see if it works for you).

Thanks, you seem to have it nailed, I will wait and see when you have fixed the known issues.

In case it helps, my setup includes a Polk Audio soundbar being played using chromecast.

Unfortunately I can't replicate, I left MM5 play last night for 4h+ to Nexus Player and in the morning amount time passed was same as time of Selected tracks that were played

I tested all available formats taht are supported on Android TV 8.1 natively (Both Video and Audion)

Thanks for the update. I was able to replicate and generate debug logs. but it looks like one of those issues that only occurs when the stars are (mis)aligned just so. So it's possible that it's not even a regression in recent builds; we'll see once the devs analyze the logs.

I just downloaded 2679, and it does the same as 2675 ie quits after two or three tracks, announces "speaker turned off or inaccessible".

It also sometimes restarts the same track. I am also getting a stop playing with the ".. Cannot decode .." message sometimes. So far, it has not actually crashed to a point where I need task manager.

I realize the noted bug has not yet been addressed in 2679, but I was hoping maybe by chance it had changed the alignment of the stars in some way.

Do you still need a further debug log on this???

Yeah, a debug log might be helpful since it's not a functional issue for me--i.e. I get the 'inaccessible' toast message, but MediaMonkey continues playing.

OK, so this is crazy.

Re-install 2670 - all is well again - it plays uninterrupted

Download 2679-debug version install that - it repeats and errors as above.

Install and run debug-view, restart 2679, and it plays uninterrupted for a half hour.

Close debug-view and it keeps on playing.

If it starts giving error messages again, I will re-start the debug-view and see if I can capture it.

Further report this morning - using 2679:

Restarted MM5, and began playing a playlist of mp3 tracks, in shuffle mode, to my chromecast speaker, and after a couple of tracks it gave the "... cannot decode..." error, and restarted from the beginning of the same track.

So, without touching mm at all, I started debugview, which began recording MM output.

MM continued playing same track to the end, moved to the next track, and has been playing now for about 10 tracks uninterrupted.

So, my conclusion is that running debugview together with MM5 totally fixes the problem. I don't suppose a log of this error-free performance is of any use to you???

There is no preview build, but my guess would be to expect it at the end of week.

Just loaded 2682, and started playing some tracks by chromecast to my soundbar

So far about 10 tracks have played with no error messages, restarts, or any other issues

I'll give it another good long test run tomorrow

Update:

Been playing all morning now uninterrupted!

However, I have discovered I cannot display visualizations on my Computer, while playing to Chromecast speaker.

I can live with that.

You can still do that and workaround is to Use multi zone and also select internal player (Muted)
