Genre not filled in

Post by TheEmpathicEar »

My example is Harry Styles, "Harry's House", 2022, CD rip. I have noticed other tags being filled during a rip. But, genre is not filled. And, when I tried auto-tag, it did not seem to find the genre for this CD either?

It depends on MusicBrainz having this information. With Genre it's sometimes lacking unfortunately.

Auto-tag uses MusicBrainz as well as in CD rips, etc?
EDIT: What other choices are there in MM5? I tried Discogs in Foobar and for some reason it either could not find the album and/or did not have the tags?
EDIT2: I am rusty. Discogs only works on CD rips?

MusicBrainz is the only integrated options. Addons could provide other sources, but none exist yet for tags like Genre: https://www.mediamonkey.com/addons/brow ... -lookup-1/

Wow! I had no idea is that was difficult to fill in the Genre tag? Is must be more difficult than other tags?

Genre is a somewhat subjective tag.

Absolutely. I tried to cut and paste the Genre tag from Wikipedia. But, for some reason with multiple tags I had difficulty just doing a simple copy there and paste into MM5. Maybe you know a way to copy a "bunch" of genre tags from Wikipedia?

Which genre should be broadcast now?

Create an MS Word file in which to store all of your genre entries.

You'll need to replace , with ; to make it a multi-genre. You may want to paste in Notepad first, replace the comma's then past in MediaMonkey.

Damn! I was using ","s Now, I have to be on the lookout for these and replace with ";"s

The split character used is a setting: https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/WebHel ... Fields/5.0

However setting it to comma, may have unintended consequences.

The replacement thing always has risks. What we need is a "Genre Tagger". I could swear that FreeDB tagged Genre{s}? Is it possible to use it w/o more trouble than it's worth?

Freedb is no longer maintained, like MusicBrainz it also was a hit & miss when it comes to Genre.

Hi EmpatheticEar,

Unfortunately the "Replace String" addon doesn't work for Genre BUT there is the "x; y" Split Multi-Value Fields addon. You might want to try this.

My preference is the use the Entire Library / Genres node. I scroll down to the offending node e.g. "Accoustic, Fok, Rox" and
select then use F2 to edit / correct to "Acoustic; Folk; Rock". Whilst nothing appears to happen, just collapse the Genres node and expand - all done.

Hope this helps.
