Multizone pause/play issues [#19847]

Post by Preminance »

I have MM on two PCs for livestreaming purposes and, when using multizone playback (main PC internal, streaming PC server), pausing a track does halt the audio but, when resuming, the song skips ahead as if it were never paused.

I've tested multiple times & the song always plays normally for ~1s when unpaused but then skips ahead to a new point equal to exactly the time paused, i.e:
song is paused at 2:00, wait 30s, song is unpaused & resumes "normally" for a split second then skips to 2:30.

If the time between pause/play exceeds the remainder of the track, the song plays briefly (again, ~1s) then skips entirely to the next track.

Other than that, I have no playback issues between the two PCs - any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
Sorry for late reply. I was not able to replicate, here is what I tested for past week:
1. Setup multi zone Internal speakers
2. Nexus player (Chromecast)
3. Second PC with MM5 (DLNA)
4. Started play for minute or so
5. Paused playback for 30-45 seconds (and then after 2-3 minutes)
6. unpaused playback it continue

I only observed when paused for 2-3 minutes devices that put them self to standby stutter till they get playback buffer catchup.

Please fill in parts that are bit different than yours eg. google groups, connection types, ...

Thanks for the response!

The only different step in my setup is:
2) cast to second PC via MediaMonkey Server (Library > Media Sharing)

I made sure to port forward & set a firewall exception for both PCs. I also have pretty much default settings in MM, aside from adding "PreferLLKeysHook=1" to both PCs' .ini's

Is there a better way to connect two PCs other than via server over my regular internet connection?

Let me know if there is any additional information that I can provide!

Hi,
If i got you correctly You connect to two PCs over DLNA or one PC Connects to second PC and then play on second PC over DLNA?

My PCs are direct wired connection and Nexus Player is connected over WiFi 5Ghz (700Mbits, 802.11ac, WiFi 5) not over internet.

I toggle on Multizone on my main (first) PC to have it connect to my streaming (second) PC, which I believe is the second option you presented. My PCs are not connected together in any way aside from being on the same network (and both are connected to it via ethernet, if that matters.)

The only time the "skipping" occurs is when I'm using Multizone - using solely the internal player on either PC has absolutely 0 problems - which leads me to believe the issue is confined to the DLNA server.

Does it also skip if you just stream to the one PC (no multi-zone)?

Do you actually experience the audio jumping? I don't seem to be able to reproduce this. The timeline does jump, but the audio continues where it left off.

The audio only jumps if the time paused exceeds the remainder of the track (i.e: track is 3:00 long, paused at 2:00 mark, unpaused after 2 minutes = will play for ~1s then jump to next track.) My bad for not detailing that correctly!

Other than that, the track's audio will resume normally BUT that "irl pause time" is still factored in on the timeline (i.e: track 3:00 long, paused at 2:00, unpaused after 30s, track AUDIO resumes [correctly, at 2:00] but timeline jumps to 2:30. track will end when timeline hits 3:00, skipping 30s of audio.)

Yes, the skips still occur. I noticed when doing this that only the main (doing the streaming) PC's timeline jumped ahead - the second PC's timeline resumes at the correct location. This happens specifically when I pause/unpause via the main PC. Pausing on the second PC (being streamed to), I can resume / jump around on the track's timeline normally (and no audio issues) but cannot play the next song in the queue and, when resuming via main PC, the same skips will then occur.

It seems like the issue is confined to the PC doing the streaming, not the one being streamed to.

The having pause duration extend beyond remaining file duration seems key: https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=19847
