Multiple Media directing to the same drive [#19083]

Post by paulonl »

Hi,

I recently had to reorganize my hard drives. I had songs on two drives in the same folder structure: C:\music\import\... and E:\music\import\... Both drives have unique songs, so all songs appear only once.

I want to have all files on E:\Music\Import\..., so I copied the files from C:\ into the E:\ directory structure. So all files are neatly organized on one drive in their respective folders. So far so good.

In order for MM5 to find the tracks, I modified the original Media/hard disk identifier from C: to E:, which seemed to work correctly because I can now see and play all files in MM.

There are now however two Media identifiers in the library pointing to the same hard drive, which can be concluded from the HDD serial number. No problem because who cares, but when scanning folders for new/changed tracks, many tracks get imported for a second time, which is not what I want.

How can I merge the 2 Media identifiers without losing the songs or MM data on the songs?

Many thanks for any suggestions!

Sadly, this does not help much with fixing the problem he has now of duplicate tracks appearing in the database.

Some possibilities:

If the database info such as last played playcount, and playlist content etc is important to you then wait for instructions from someone more knowledgeable than me. :)

If all you want is the info that is duplicated in the tags, then you can delete one of the drive paths from "folders to be scanned" and then add-rescan the remaining one.

It should find all of the tracks, and import into the database whatever data and images are embedded in the tags.

You could also try to delete one of the drives and then use locate moved missing in the other to see if that finds them without losing your data.

Don't do any of these things if results are critical to you.

Thanks Rob for your suggestions!

I do rely on the Added date to keep track of my musical journey over the years, so importing all files again will erase that information. Now if a Date Created timestamp from Windows would be supported, I could overcome that problem, but that info is not available in MM5.

@Ludek

I see the issue you are referring to has been open since 2018. That doesn't make me hopeful regarding a short term solution.

As a MM Gold user, would it be able to get some direct support to solve this problem in my MM installation? I guess one carefully created SQL query will do the trick re-assigning tracks from one media to another...

Hi Paulo,

feel free to share your MM5.DB via the ticket #6213 and I'll merge the drives for you.
