Add/Rescan Files To The Library Keeps Adding And Selecting Another Path [#21285]

I tried going back to 3063, but the problem was still there. So, I went all the way back to 3051, and the problem is gone.

Do you guys know what version this problem was introduced? I've been away and haven't properly tested every version lately.


Note: I think the later versions are giving me File Explorer problems where it becomes non-responsive No issue with 3051.

It is changed in early 5.1/2024 builds, which is strange that you do not observe in 3051. Can you give exact steps what do not work in 3064 but work in 3051, maybe there are other fixes that can influence this.

Can you explain this bit more as latest fix in 3066 is related to adding and using Folders/Location in MM.

I use Add/Rescan on a regular basis, not to bring in tracks but to bring in m3u files.

Can you give steps you use to add M3Us?

It is a bit convoluted but each MM step is relatively simple.

I use an Excel tool to manage my construction of playlists for a radio show. I use the MM's File Report to get the library data from MM to Excel. That export includes the full path field (which, FYI, I have configured as E:\MediaMonkeyMusicFiles\AlbumArtistName\Album\Artist-Album-Track#-Title.mp3). I have the Excel tool simply list the paths of the files that I want to put into a playlist, generally about 30 at a time. I copy those cells and paste them into a Notepad page and save it as a .TXT file. That yeilds a text file with one complete song file path per line.

That simple list of file paths is sufficient to be interpreted as a M3U file. I relocate the text file to a folder accessible to MM and simply change the extension of the file from .TXT to .M3U. That of course throws the usual Windows warning which I dismiss. I then use MM's Add/Rescan process to choose that specific .M3U file in that specific folder. MM scans the file, reads it as a playlist file and adds it to the Imported playlist folder, from which point I relocate it within my playlist hierarchy, and, eventually, play it from MM.

If you were looking for suggestions for the Add/Rescan function, I would suggest - after fixing the determination of what folder paths show up in the main dialog - that double clicking on an existing entry would open the browse dialog. At the moment, double clicking on an entry in the front dialog file list simply allows text edit of the file path. I would rather interact with the browse dialog because that's the way Windows works, and typos become irrelevant. And, it would simplify things for me because a desired path will be close to an existing path which would be easy for me to find and use in a browse folders/files view, and that would reduce the click count for me.

That is exactly what I can't replicate. What steps you use to add new scan folders?

Unlike you, I just use "Add/Rescan....". Simplistic. The only location I have checked off is "D:\iPod\My Music". This is why I was upset. I just added an EP, "Think Later", Tate McRae.

Here is what I tested:
Case 1:
1. Open MM
2. File -> Add/Rescan
3. Add d:\MyMusic\ (Manual + Checked)
4. Scan Now
5. File -> Add/Rescan (d:\MyMusic\ is there checked)
6. Add \\NAS\New Music (Startup + Continous + checked)
7. Save Now
8. File -> Add/Rescan (All there Checked -> Cancel)

Case 2:
1. Open MM
2. Folders -> Network -> NAS -> Multimedia -> Music -> INS
3. \\NAS\New Music and d:\MyMusic\ are Unchecked and \\NAS\Multimedia\Music\ Checked
4. Scan Now
5. File -> Add/Rescan (\\NAS\New Music and d:\MyMusic\ are Checked -> Cancel)

At what point added path for scan gets deleted/removed for you?

My experience: Folders/Paths were coming back after I specifically deleted/removed them. After installing, v3066, this was no longer the case for me.
Can you list some examples where v3066 did not make any difference for you? [This is all in the context of the Add/ReScan files to the library]

Looks like someone was using the older implementation too and was very dependent on it, even we all thought it was a bug and fixed it. While truth is that all of us are right.
