Cycle Artist Images - How? Why? Weird... [#21504]

Post by wgait12 »

Hello - long time MediaMonkey user and very happy with the software. I must write about this because I don't understand how this happens.

A select few artists have some creepy and weird images. After doing some research, I understand that the program gets images various sources, including fanart tv, theaudiodb, and Google image search. This seems like a logical and good system.

Take the band Heart: A few months ago, it was pulling biological pictures of the human heart, silly pictures of hearts (like those on Valentine's day) and some were just grotesque. Not one band picture was displayed while playing. This seems to have been remedied now as when I hear a Heart now, there are proper pictures of Ann and Nancy Wilson.

But now, Billy Joel. For ALL songs - not matter from what album - I get a picture of a creepy dude in a hooded sweatshit I've never seem before. What gives?!? Seriously, if there was only ONE picture, and it was of Billy Joel, it would be acceptable. I just don't get it.

By the way, the same picture comes up if I run MediaMonkey on another computer.

I've found some procedures like 'Overriding Images' but I don't see why I'd need to do this if the program is grabbing images from any of the named sites above.

So, I guess my question is, what's the deal? This is Billy Joel, a quite familiar and quite successful artist. Why is the image - and others, sometimes - completely wrong?

Thank you -

Currently running MediaMonkey 5.0.4.2693. (I do note that .2695 is out now.)

Not that this has persisted since I started using 'Cycle Artist images' about nine months ago. So, the problem has been there over at least another version.

It is - I just checked. Thank you. Honestly, it's a little thing but it was just strange.

I have a vast music collection and now all the images I see are pretty much on par. I've taken to running this on my OLED theater television with a media PC. I'll be keeping a look out - as others do as they come through my room - as time goes by.

Thanks again -

I have upgraded to MediaMonkey 2024 (though it reverted back before the upgrade) - other than what looks like a movie advert for 'Rush' - when the band Rush is playing - the creepy person that seems to be the ONLY image for Billy Joel gets posted AGAIN.

How can this be fixed - permanently? Is there a way to flush the cache on my machine? This was working with proper Billy Joel images for awhile, but I can't figure this one out.

Hi,
Nothing is permanent especially now with all those AI Guessing what results you want to get on Search queries.

Added https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=21504 for further testing

Hi - again, thanks for looking at this.

To be sure, I understand that obscure musicians could be an issue. I'm OK with this. Clearly you have stumbled on some behavior in the app that is strange.

Queen always had some royal photos however most of the time it was mixed in with proper photos of the band. Understandable. The issue was never about about a single album, either. ('The Miracle' was mentioned in your notes.)

But to be sure: Artists like Billy Joel and the band Boston are NOT obscure. I'll wait to see what happens in future releases, right now I'm running 2004 v. 3082 which seems to be the current release version. But take a look at these two artists, as an example:

- Billy Joel: One image of a creepy looking guy I have no idea what that is
- Boston: OK, but it just shows some locales of the city of Boston

Thanks again for looking at this functionality - Cheers and best.

fyi, we've made additional improvements in this area for RC-3 which should be available later today or tomorrow. Can you confirm that it works for you once RC-3 is available?

Thanks!

Sorry - how can I download the RC-3? I can't seem to find it anywhere. I'll download the latest and try it if you direct me where to get it. Thanks!

Hi - I installed RC-3 (3113) and ran through some quick tests.

- Billy Joel: This still isn't fixed on my screen. Same old creepy dude in a hooded sweatshirt is the only image that comes up. This is even stranger because when I first raised this issue, one of the developers did fix it in a subsequent version on MM (see comments above). But, it's back to this person who I have no idea who it is! I'll add that I'm from Long Island where Billy Joel is from, his 'Glass Houses' album cover was only four miles from where I live and he used to show up and perform in town...and no idea who this picture is of!
- Boston: Still just local pictures and buildings in the Boston area
- Queen: All looked good! Didn't see any pictures of the royals or their artifacts which were regularly inserted with pictures of the band. All were band pictures now, some I've never seen before
- Heart: Checked on this band as originally this was one of the bands that had some really graphic biological pictures of the human heart. All were good, and even saw some early pictures of the band I've also never viewed before
- Hiroshima: I guess you could consider this smooth/contemporary jazz artist a little less mainstream, but just pictures of Hiroshima, Japan come up. No worries - again - I understand that some artists not played all that much and have geographic-based based names may do this. But, I suspect that someone on your staff may be a smooth jazz fan because all the other artists large and small is usually properly sourced
- The band Chicago and it's original name, Chicago Transit Authority: Oddly, unlike Boston, the band Chicago has all proper pictures pop-up. But play any songs from their highly successful original album from 1969 when they were called 'Chicago Transit Authority' (before the local government threatened the band on their name), and all pictured of trains from Chicago come up. I suppose an easy fix would be to change the Metadata in the song files to just Chicago, but it's not really terrible

Anyway, the improvements you all made are working and better. Thank you for your work. I can only conclude that you program is still grabbing some objects based on key word searches and, unless specified for specific bands, will do this from time to time.

All best, Bill
