Cue file not playing correctly [#21522]

Post by supermusiclover »

Dear Mediamonkey makers, I found a bug in Mediamonkey 2024.0 and 2024.1 latest beta. When dragging u cue file from a music folder on my external harddisk into the playlist of Mediamonkey (or opening it through File - Open file or URL) it shows correctly with all files listed in the correct order. When starting the first file (number 1) the album starts playing and in the Playing Now screen (second option left in the menu just below Home) it shows the next song (number 2) as the coming up song.

This is where the problem is situated: centrered at the bottom (next to the start/stop etc buttons) only the first title is being shown, and not the correct title of the song playing at that moment (e.g. number 1 showing and number three playing) . When trying to double click another song in the playlist it start over again with the song that is currently playing and not the song being double clicked. I have two screenshots for you to illustrate this. Here they are:

So cue function yes, working correctly: unfortunately not (yet). Please see into this issue and help me out! Thank you in advance.
Or am I doing something wrong perhaps?

Hi,
Can you try same with Local Playback and not Playing To some device? (I see in your pictures that Play To is highlighted or I am wrong)

Dear Peke,

local playback no problem, files playing and showing in the correct order. Skipping to the next/previous song also no problems, showing correct numbers and titles.

I use this program to play to an Eversolo DMP-A8 streamer via network cable and also to Marantz CD50N via network cable, and that was one of the reasons that I bought Mediamonkey in the first place, next to the database visual possiblities :D

Hope that you guys can fix the problem (network play)?

Hi,
This is High On To Do list, actually I can say that in next few versions we plan to make MM Now playing list available as DLNA accessed list so you should be able to use both Eversolo DMP-A8 streamer and Marantz CD50N to initiate playback on their side and avoid any issues related to compatibility with devices. Meantime we will work on better support for different Play To devices especially Marantz (due the proprietary HEOS support confusion).

For me CUE is always converted to individual parts when casting (per #20226), but I found issue (fail to cast) when the CUE is accessed as playlist under Folders node, to be fixed as https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=21522

i.e. workaround is to scan the files into library at first

When scanning files into the library (where the cue file takes care of splitting one file into single song files) and starting to play (cast to Eversolo) both filename and cover are showing and files play correctly. Screen Playing Now shows album and correct file as Next file. Also in playlist on the right files are being highlighted as correct file playing (so file playing is file highlighted). Eversolo does click/switch (clicking sound). Here is the next problem: when the second file is playing the album art/cover does not show anymore on the Eversolo (problem 1, though all files are correctly tagged in MP3Tag.

Second problem is when I skip a file with the buttons below the file playing (skip, start, stop etc) the cover is not showing at all anymore and Eversolo clicks everytime a new file is skipped to (so skipping from track 1 to track 2 e.g.), or a file is being fastforwarded os I choose to set the track to 3/4 on the progressbar. Though he just skipped when track 2 was finished and track 3 started.

When using internal player the cover also sometimes disappears in the Playing Now screen at random when skipping back or forward.

This occurs when a single flac file is being scanned into the library with a cue file which makes single files.

I tried this with 2 single flac files located on a harddisk within my computer streaming to Eversolo player (/ using internal player) through network cable connection. Hope I explained well.

Like Ludek, I would recommend splitting the CUE file first. In fact I try to do this before I import the album into my library.

I do this by using Medieval Software's CUE Splitter so that the output (typically individual FLAC files) end up in my MMW downloads folder. This folder is set for the Add / ReScan to happen continuously so that the Collection I have specifically for this folder picks up the new files.

After editing the tags / lyrics, the files are added to my library using Ctrl+R to organise into the right folder.

M:\$if(<Type>=TV, <Type>\<Series>\<Season #>\, $if(<Type>=Video, <Type>\, <Type>\<Album Artist>\<Album>\))\<Title>

Is the "mask" I use in the destination address to account for a slightly different folder structure for audio vs video vs TV.

Thanks again for the report! It's fixed in RC-3 which should be available later today or tomorrow. Can you confirm that it works for you once RC-3 is available?

Thanks!

This afternoon I installed RC3, curious what changes were for the better regarding the cue file(s) and what stills needs to be done. Here is my feedback after testing:

1) At first:

- when using the internal player and having added the single Flac file with cue file to the library all seems weel, files playing correct, highlighted files are files being played and album art is showing correctly. Though*:
* when having used the Eversolo and Denon streamers and returning / switching from DLNU/UPnP to internal player the playlist started over with track 1, where track 5 e.g. was last played on my streamers (seems like return / reset of playlist perhaps?)
** when switching from internal player to streamer (Eversolo) the next track is being played (so track 5 internal player leads to track 6 on streamer, whereas in version 5 track 5 started over again instead of skipping to track 6)

2) Secondly when using the Eversolo and Deno both streamers click / show everytime a new file starts from within the playlist (as mentioned earlier from within the library) they "feel" every track as a new input and this is not present when playing a "normal" album (without cue, and containing multiple files). As well do they not show the album art when track 2 starts, and track 1 is finished (with album art showing). Only when I point in Properties that the cover may be used for all files within the cue file only then the streamers show album art for all files.

Again this is not present when playing a "normal" album. This is when using the cue fil within the library.
Skipping back and forward is working normally within the internal player, also setting the track to e.g. 3/4 works fine.

But when using the streamers and doing the same (setting file to 3/4) the next track starts playing, skipping back and forward plays correct file(s), bur streamers click as mentioned earlier.

3) Thirdly I tried dragging and dropping a cue file from my internal harddisk to the playlist again (using a different cue file / album this time to prevent that a cue file was causing the problem). Playlist fills with tracks, album art shows and playing started on the Eversolo. Screen Playing Now is used. When skipping forward the screen shows track 2, 3 etc but track 1 starts over and over again. Putting the bar on 3/4 or 1/4 works, but still track 1 is the only one playing (whereas track 3 is mentioned above the playbar and track 4 stands ready in Coming Up next to the album art. Double clicking track 3 e.g. in the playlist to force track 3 to play does not work. Skipping back does the same. Pausing works, and track continues playing normally.

When letting play track 1 to the end track 2 starts, but both on the streamer and on the Mediamonkey Playing Now screen track 1 shows, so e.g. Simon & Garfunkel - Sounds of Silence plays but Simon & Garfunkel - Wednesday Morning 3. A.M. shows. Also highlighted in the playlist track 1 shows. And not track 2,3 etc.

I hope this helps? Looking forward to your replies.

Hi,
the difference re Internal player versus DLNA player is causes by the fact that in case of internal player the original file is played and MM is only seeking to individual parts while in case of DLNA the file is re-encoded (splitted) to individual parts and just those parts are served.. and this way correct metadata on DLNA player can be preserved..

Anyhow you can supress this behaviour and stream output from the Internal player by using the new checkbox option in Options -> Player -> Streaming

[x] Play all audio as single stream (gaplessly)

Just tried this and now I am getting the curious phenomena that both streaming and internal player (through 2 monitor speakers) are both playing the same song (2x2 speakers, standalone speakers also), and in another case selecting a second album (switched from streamer selection (option bottom right stream to menu) to internal player that the sound becomes double, so one song started playing and second song both play asynchronously (so not one song I hear but two)???

This happened when playing two "normal" albums in the library, located on an external harddisk.
