.nomedia file is preventing MM from finding any music

Post by yaoibunga »

hi all. i have just upgraded from a pixel 7a to pixel 8a. i have version 2.0.3.1226, mediamonkey pro. i have been annoyed for years that my google photos app gets polluted with hundreds of individual folders, each with a single album artwork in it. i found out that the solution is adding a ".nomedia" file to the folder where i keep all my music. i tried it and it seems to have worked—i don't see the folders in google photos anymore—but MM also doesn't seem to see any music anymore. like, i have added the folder where the music is kept, but the app just picks up literally zero music. i have an empty library. the files are all there though, i used the default android file explorer to find them and to play a song.

i tried uninstalling and re-installing the app but unfortunately all it did was erase all my settings and customization. the app still isn't detecting any music.

does anyone have any recommendations for this? i assume getting rid of the ".nomedia" file would fix this but it would also just create the old google photos problem again. is there any way to have my cake and eat it too here?

thanks!

edit: tried to delete the ".nomedia" file. windows said it failed. i unplugged my phone and MM suddenly started finding the music again... but the album art folders have all appeared in google photos. back where i started i suppose. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
