It looks like it *is* that settiing that I originally posted above in my screenshot that causes tracks to redownload after playing. If this box is ticked then it redownloads any tracks that have simply been played on my device (and not edited in any way). But if I untick it and then play some tracks, these don't redownload on the next sync.

From the wording I would have thought that it should just sync the metadata (ratings and play history) and shouldn't force a redownload just from playing a track.

Sometimes I might want to change the star rating of a track on my phone and I guess I could understand how that might cause a redownload (unless it's possible to change rating without downloading the whole track). But on occasions when a track is just played I don't see that it should need to download the whole track in order to update the play count.

I am unable to replicate on my devices, can you send MMA debug log after sync and paste LOG ID here?

If this option is enabled it would only sync metadata to the server.
The redownloading is caused by combining "Force files to resync whenever the source file has changed" in MMW/Device's sync profile/Tagging.
However, if only the play count is updated, it should not be re-downloaded. I tested it with MMA 2.0.4.1231 and was unable to replicate the issue.
So there must be some additional tags, like a rating, to be synced, which modify the file.
The debug log would be useful.

I definitely don't change anything (star ratings etc or edit any tags). I'm literally just playing some tracks on my phone in the car then at the next sync all those played tracks get downloaded again.

I'll try and get some logs when I can although I've had problems using the debug version before so I usually stay away from it. Also pretty busy at the moment but I'll try and do it when I get a minute.
