Casting: MMA does not trigger device discovery [#20861 #21602]

It seems like MMA does not trigger device discovery of casting devices.

If I come home from work or wake up and connect the smartphone to the wifi and try to select a casting device, the list is just empty. I can retry as often as I want.
Only if i open VLC app and and open the cast list there then MMA also shows the device list.

I can occasionally replicate this, but when it occurs, I just tap the cast button again and available devices are discovered. Are you saying that even if you try again after a few seconds (without opening another app) that device discovery continues to fail?

If yes, can you replicate the bug 2x (waiting a few seconds between the first and second attempt to discover cast devices), and then submit a debug log (from the menu, click Help > Send logs) and share the log ID here?

EDIT: on further testing, I was able to replicate this. It doesn't occur consistently and often resolves itself, but we're looking into it and tracking it at https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=20861

Before sending the log I replicated the bug 3 times. MMA only showed my dlna TV. The 2 chromecast speakers were not shown.

Interestingly the casting device list is always filled when returning from the "send debug logs" view.

It feels like device discovery is triggered in the background but a refresh of the view is missing.
If I stay in the empty casting devices view it will never refresh with the found devices. I tested and waited 2 minutes. But if I switch to another view like Playlists view and go back to the casting devices view the found devices are instantly shown.

So I have got a workaround, but it would really be nice to see this issue fixed. I am facing this issue at least once a day every morning. Sometimes a second time in the afternoon.

Hi!
I am now seeing another form of this bug.
My understanding of the cast button is:
If I press the cast button it shall show the available cast devices and trigger device search in background.

Two days ago I ralozed that each time I press the cast button it shows an empty list and triggers device discovery which refreshes the list after a few seconds with the found devices. If I now go back and press the cast button again all that starts over again... The list is empty and device discovery starts.
MMA should remember the list of devices it found before.

I sent multiple logs today, this was the last: V1JKJA3RHV

While writing this report MMA remembers the list of found devices again. So unfortunatelly it is not 100% reproducible.
