I've done this before so I know it CAN work.
But now when I try (with the same phone) MM will not connect to the phone.
Any ideas anyone??

Re: syncing to android phone
When sync works well it looks simple, but a bunch of things have to be correct for it to work. Things I have had to fix include:
- Setting a replacement router to have the home wifi be private instead of public - the sharing necessary for the Android MMA to reach the Windows MM media server is disabled if a wifi network is public.
- Adjusting Windows network settings to make the home wifi private instead of public.
- Setting the phone to use the same network as the phone. In Australia home routers tend to have a 2.4GHz and a 5GHz network which act as separate networks and my phone sometimes switches between them, but MM and MMA have to be on the same one.
- Adjusting windows firewall to remove duplicated MediaMonkey firewall rules - regular update of different beta versions can result in multiple iterations of MediaMonkey firewall rules; deleting all of them and then restarting MM prompts it to re-establish one set of rules which then work.
