Been a very long time - Current requirements for iPhone syncing?

Post by adhalejr »

It's been a very long time since I've sync'd any songs to my iPhone (or iPad) via MM (not that I've used any other tool to sync, either). Easily at least 3 years, possibly 5 years.

So I'm wondering if anything has changed with regards to what's required to sync from MM to an iPhone. Must iTunes still be installed and "see" the iPhone before MM can sync? I've never installed iTunes on my new-ish (18 months old) PC, and I'd love to not have to install it.

My PC is Windows 11 24H2. My iPhone is on 18.4.1. And I'm running MM 5 (2024.1.03113).

Thanks much!

Hi,
I think that Apple has not changed much and if you follow https://www.mediamonkey.com/support/kno ... ut-itunes/ you should have Apple devices detected in MM and be able to sync.

That link is extremely helpful - didn't know that was possible. Pretty easy to get things connected, and I'm syncing now.

Is there a way to get MM to recognize what's already on the device so that the sync I need to do represents what's actually new / changed? I've never sync'd from MM to my iPhone on this PC. That might explain why MM seems to think it needs to copy ~4,800 files even though ~4,700 of them are already on the iPhone and were sync'd to the iPhone via MM (previous version of MM on previous PC).

Alternatively, is there a way to get MM to "wipe" all the songs/playlists on the iPhone (i.e. w/o using iTunes) so that, if MM wants to sync everything, it at least represents the actual need to sync everything?

Thanks again for the help.
