Help needed: Can't select correct folder after moving to new PC (MM2024 Gold on Windows 11)

Post by BlindMcTell »

Hi everyone,

I recently moved to a new PC running Windows 11. I have a Gold license and I'm using MediaMonkey 2024 for Windows.

To transfer my audio collection from my old PC, I followed the steps in this guide:
👉 https://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/Moving ... w_computer

I copied both the MM5 database and all my media files to the new machine. Then I tried to use the Gold "Locate Moved/Missing Files" tool to re-link my tracks to their new locations.

However, I’m running into a problem: I can’t select or add the folder that contains my audio files on the new PC. Instead, I only see the old folder paths from my previous machine.

How can I point MediaMonkey to the correct folder on the new PC?
Is there a step I missed to update or rescan the new location?

Thanks in advance for your help!

If the files are in the same location (drive letter excluded) just use re-assign drive instead.

Did you select the files that need to be located first, and then have issues selecting the new location in the Locate Moved/Missing files dialog?

Hi Lowlander,
Thanks for your prompt response. The media files are not in the same location as the name of the user has changed when I changed PC. So the drive re-allocation won't work.
When selecting grayed files that don't play and use Locate missing file I see a list of directories. (I have tried to post the screenshot via postimg but it keeps saying I am not allowed to post images even with a space in the URL.
None of the shown directories have the media files and the last two are drives from the old PC.
When I try to add a location like C:\Users\<name>\Documents, it say the directory does not exist.
I am puzzled.

Are you manually adding the folder, in that case copy & paste it from File Explorer. Does that work?

Presumably you're changing the <name> part of the location?

Yes I put my own username instead of <name>, copy and paste the name of the directory in Explorer, then click ADD. Then a window pops up: "the directory does not exist"

Either try Copy & Paste from File Explorer or navigate to the folder via the tree.

Do make sure you Add Location via Local storage if it's a local Path, it won't work via the other options.
