Syncing back after new MMW install

Post by offpistesau »

Dear all
I have library on my samsung android and a new Windows installation. Is it possible to sync it back to Windows? If so, what do I do wrong. MMW did sync couple of new music to android but nothing from android to Windows. Or do I need to copy all music files to Windows first? Would prefer the former solution. I use USB sync as I don't have a licence to use WiFi...
Thanks a lot

You need to enable this in the Sync list.

Yes I did that before I started the first sync. Didn't have an effect at all. Any other ideas what I could do?

Oh, how can I upload the screenshot here? I don't see any option for that.
Perhaps this will work? https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/t7xianz7 ... n18lq&dl=0

Have you checked D:\Users\Kerp where the files should be after Sync?

If that doesn't work, please try Sync with the latest MediaMonkey 2024.2 beta. Does that resolve the issue?

Yes this is my folder.
Are you saying that this is a new feature of MMW and innew a newest beta version?
I'm using a USB sync.
How could I delete the whole library and the the sync profile and start fresh new one?

What about using a MM Server installed on the same windows computer? I think I did that in past cauz the normal sync via USB wasn't reliable....

Does MMW create a log file which says more about where the syncing is aborted? In which folder is the actual library stored in?

Syncing MMA over USB to fresh MMW installation

I have library on my samsung android and a new Windows installation. Is it possible to sync it back to MMW via USB? If so, what do I do wrong? MMW did sync couple of new music to android but nothing from android to Windows. I did all settings I found on Wiki.
Thanks a lot

If your main purpose is to recover your music files, and such things as playcounts and playlists are less important, then my first move would be to locate the files on my android device, and use something like File Manage Plus to copy them over to the music folder on the PC. You can also connect the phone to the PC using USB, and then access the files on your Samsung using Windows Explorer and copy them that way.

Then you can install MMW on the PC (or if it it is installed already, OK too) and scan the said music folder, which will get you the listing of all the files that are in there.

If your plalists are extensive, only then you need to pursue the Sync option, which i know very little about why it sometimes does not work.

Yes this is would my last choice to at least theocracy back on my computer. On the other hand I need to have the sync working back and forth anyway cause I'm adding new songs on other MMW und MMA. so I thought to solve the syncing issue first....
Do I need a certain USB driver? But accessing the files via file manager works with no problems...

Hey offpistesau,

Same boat here—USB sync from MMA to a fresh MMW install can be hit or miss. If MMW isn’t picking up files from your Android, manually copying them over via File Manager or Windows Explorer might be the cleanest workaround for now. Once they’re on your PC, just rescan the folder in MMW to rebuild the library.

Also, I’d definitely try the latest beta build of MMW—some sync issues have been ironed out in newer versions. And yeah, MMW does log sync activity; check under AppData\Roaming\MediaMonkey\Logs to see if anything’s getting blocked or skipped.

Let us know if you find a fix that gets full two-way sync working again. Would help a lot of us!

That sounds promising. Thank a lot. I ll do that on the weekend wirhe the beta version and will report back the progress.
How can I manually remove the library database to be sure to start with fresh installation. Some uninstallers remove binaries but leave the db on the computer
