My album art file(s) are added with the option to store them both to the tag and to the folder.
In MM4, occassionally I'd find the need to "Clean ID3v1 and ID3v2 Tags" and then "Update tags" from the database.
In the new version (2024.1.0.3113), when I do that, the embedded album art is erased. It appears there's still a reference to it, but it's just gone. Not in the MP3 file any longer, as seen by other apps and even Windows itself.
Got a real mess on my hands, as I've just done this to far more albums than I have time to manually re-add the images to!
Bug, by design, or...?
Thanks... Karl

Re: Embedded Media Erased and Not Restored
The function is to remove metadata from the files, embedded Artwork is also metadata. There should be no need to use this for normal use. Don't use this feature if you don't intent to remove embedded Artwork.

Re: Embedded Media Erased and Not Restored
Yeah, I absolutely understand embedded metadata, but I appreciate those facts being added to the thread.
With MM4 it was possible to clean the tags, and re-update them from database; the image tags were repopulated. For whatever valid reason.
This feels like a regression. Was that by design or a bug in the old version? Either way, it's a significant deviation.
I mean, the reference is still in the database! I can see it when I subsequently pop the Artwork properties, along with the placeholder image that's used for missing data.

Are you saying you see an empty Artwork for an embedded Artwork in the Properties > Artwork. That would be a bug as you've told MediaMonkey to remove the Artwork from the file.

Right. Following the Clean / Update cycle, it's re-embedded an empty image into the MP3s.
In MM4, the image would have been re-embedded.
