MM4 overriding my tags applied with MusicBrainz

Post by Darryl_Gittins »

If I use a file tagger such as MusicBrainz, MM overrides the new tags with tags that were previously in MM when I do either of the following:
1. I scan the library
2. I open the properties for the file in MM.

I’ve done the following as suggested in other posts but it does not change the behavior:
* Tools->Options->Library - Disable "Infer file properties"
* Tools > Options > Tags & Playlists - disable the option to Update tags when editing properties

MM will not accept the new tags. As soon as it scans or otherwise reads the files, MM deletes the new tags and replaces them with the old tags.

I can see the new tags if I open the file properties dialog box from Windows Explorer and they are correctly updated, but when MM scans or otherwise opens the files, I can see (in Windows Explorer) that the new tags are reverted to the old tags.

The only thing that works to get MM to accept the new tags is if I DELETE THE FILES FROM THE LIBRARY and then rescan the files. This takes a long time.

Is there another way to quickly have MM accept the new tags without scanning the whole library?

It sounds like MediaMonkey is not changing the tags, instead displaying the wrong tags. Is that correct?

Does the external tagger change the Date Modified Timestamp when it edits the files (and are you sure the tags are saved to it)? What File Types(s) are affected?

Note that MediaMonkey 4 is a really old release of MediaMonkey and that the current release is MediaMonkey 2024.

Yes! MediaMonkey is not showing the new tags. I have to delete the tracks and then rescan in order to get MM to show the updated tags.

Is there a faster way to get MM to show the new tags?

I'm not sure if the external tagger changes the Date Modified Time Stamp. Should it? How would that change this issue?

(Yes, I realize that MM4 is old, but I much prefer it to the interface of MM5).

Thanks!
