See ticket 13679:

Just tested with 3167 - seems even worse.

I've been using the debug version for many recent builds, trying to catch the splash screen hang (which I had been experiencing since 3082), but it has been working well. So for 3167, I installed the regular build, and almost immediately it hung at the splash screen. Not every time, but very annoying when it does. I will go back to the debug version. Doug

The same thing happens to me ever since I installed 2024.1.0.3113 (Portable Mode).

Startup Win10.
Start MM and it regularly freezes on the beginning screen.
With a Right Click on top of the beginning screen I can "Close Program".
Start MM again and most of the times it starts.

We're getting really close to a release candidate of MediaMonkey 2024.2. So far we have not been able to replicate this issue.

Is anyone still experiencing this with 2024.2.0.3168 or higher? If yes, can you share a debug log illustrating the problem with the most current beta build?

Many thanks!

I am using build 3168 debug, and mediamonkey will hang at the splash screen about 33-50% of the time when starting it after a cold reboot of my PC (every morning). After a successful start of mediamonkey, it will restart normally throughout the day. I have not been able to create a debug log, as it seems to hang before a log is created. In the past, if I start debugview before starting mediamonkey, it would always start (although much slower). I am running Windows 10 with windows security, 32GB memory, and an older intel core i5. Is there something else that I can do to help identify the cause of the hang?

Can you test out this build to see if it resolves this issue for you?
https://1drv.ms/u/c/deecac76bc358b7b/EY ... Q?e=rxOQXc

Note: it includes a change to the chromium engine and has been verified to solve the problem with one user so far.

Thanks!

Hi all,

Has the test build above solved the splash screen hanging for any of you?

Sorry to say…MediaMonkey_2024.2.0.3171_Debug is still hanging at the splash screen for me. Fortunately, far less often. In the last few days I started it via insertion of a CD to auto-rip about 12 times – all were successful. Just now I started it 18 times (DebugView was NOT running) – all succeeded until the final trial. I made sure to wait at least 15 seconds after closing MediaMonkey before trying to restart it. All launches were accomplished via double click on the desktop icon (shortcut).

The ticket which I had opened previously was closed by the MediaMonkey team so I do not have a ticket upon which to attach a log <shrug>. I got the impression that the logs were not helpful, anyway.

Again, I wonder if it might be a Windows 10 artifact?

“Ticket #14126: "3171 hangs at splash screen" has been successfully submitted”

I again experienced a hang – this time I was running DebugView. I created a new ticket. I spent much of my time today preparing my computer for upgrading to Windows 11. I expect it will take a few days for me to get a stable system back up and running – do not be surprised if I am unresponsive in the short term…

Over 10MM starts and a variety of fresh boot/sleep laptop conditions I have found that it failed to boot once, stalling at the usual spot. Have added debug log to the support ticket.
Cheers

build 3171 debug seems to have improved the hanging problem for me. It has started successfully 6 out of 6 fresh starts.

It turns out that my graphics card (fairly new, high-end) is not compatible with Windows 11 – it will be Windows 10 for me for my desktop unit.

@dnf97124 – I rarely experience the problem with that few (6) attempts. Try starting it 20 times (make sure that you wait at least 15 seconds between closing and relaunching).

That is bit hard to believe. Can you please share some detaila on your GPU? Eg like https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html or similar info?
