Hi Media Monkey Friends,
I have a personal Windows computer and a Mac work computer. Both share the same monitor via a KVM switch.
Up until this morning, if I started MMW on my Windows computer and let it play, it would continue playing when I switched over to the Mac.
I just updated MMW to 2024.2.0.3184. Unfortunately, I have now lost the ability to play music with the monitor switched. If I start music on the Windows computer and then switch the monitor to the Mac, MMW stops playing. The computer is still on - it is not asleep or in hibernation. Switching the monitor immediately goes back over to the waiting Windows computer.
Suggestions on how to restore the previous functionality just short of downgrading MMW back to what it was previously?
Thanks,
Chep

What audio device do you have configured in the enabled Output Plugin, and which Build (Help > About) of MediaMonkey are you using?

Re: MMW Stops Playing When Monitor Is Switched
Thanks for the quick reply.
If I go to to Help -> About the only number I see in there is that 2024.2.0.3184 number. Note that I don’t see the word ‘build’ in this popup.
My audio device is configured for WASAPI / Default device (with smooth pause, seek, and stop).
Thank you,
Chep

Re: MMW Stops Playing When Monitor Is Switched
The problem will be that you can't verify what Windows is set to use when the monitor is switched. Is the monitor one of the available output devices for audio in Windows itself?
You could try selecting the specific audio device in MediaMonkey, then switch the monitor and see if audio remains playing.

Re: MMW Stops Playing When Monitor Is Switched
I’m sorry - let me clarify.
The monitor is just for the video - the audio from the Windows machine goes out to speakers plugged directly into the Windows machine via an 1/8th inch jack.
It’s as if there’s a, “if video signal to the monitor is no longer being used, stop audio playback” sort of thing going on that did not previously happen with the older version of MMW before I upgraded.

Re: MMW Stops Playing When Monitor Is Switched
Yes, but does the monitor have speakers (is seen by Windows as an audio device)?
Did you attempt to set the specific Audio Device needed to be used instead of Default in MediaMonkey? Did that fix things?

Sorry, skipped over that step. Setting the specific audio device fixed things. MMW continued to play when I switched the monitor over to the Mac.
(side note, there are no speakers in the monitor)
Thank you again,

Please capture the switching issue in a debug log (step 4b) and attach the log to a Support Ticket: https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=86643 Make sure you set Audio device back to Default.
It may be a Windows issue, but hopefully the log shows why this happens.
