New User: Disable Automatic File Scanning

I'm a new user evaluating MediaMonkey for the first time. I have a few questions for which I could not find answers in help or the forums.

Is it possible to disable automatic file scanning? I have music files on my hard drive that I don't want in my program library. I'd prefer to add and delete files from the MediaMonkey library manually as needed, but cannot find a way to do this. I've tried unchecking all of the directories in the File - Add/Rescan Tracks to the Library popup, but C:\Users\Gary\Music keeps rechecking itself.

Is it possible to add music files to the library one at a time from a file directory that contains many files? I download a weekly podcast to a directory then edit its tags to meet my needs. I listen to these only on my MP3 player and don't need them included in the library, other than to edit the tags and transfer them to my MP3 player. I can get a file into the Now Playing window, but I've not figured out how to add it to the MediaMonkey library other than by scanning the entire folder and allowing all of the files in that folder to be imported.

the options panel has a way to stop the automatic start up scan.

there are podcast options on it too.

also there is an option to create a new playlist for recently added songs.

if you have the gold version you can set up a folder to be monitored then when you want to add a single song
to the library just pop that song in to that folder.
but it will use tag info to move the song file so that tag info better be correct before you use that monitored folder.

MediaMonkey doesn't scan any files when you install it. It has 2 methods of scanning for files, the first is File > Add/Rescan Tracks which needs to be invoked by the user and you decide which folders to scan. The second is the File Monitor (Tools > Options > File Monitor) which the user needs to setup, but once done will automatically scan. Make sure the latter is not setup.

You can add individual files by dragging them from Windows Explorer onto the Library node in MediaMonkey (only the Library node itself).

just checked mediamonkey and i can't seem to find the one option now i was talking about. i wonder if it was removed or if it was just the one in the autorate script options i was thinking about?

Music Monkey does scan at installation - based on what you define as the location where your music files are stored. You can change that setting later, and changing it to a file location where you don't store music files effectively disables the function.

I can't figure out what the "library node" is, as the only place I can drag and drop music files is the now playing list on the right side of the player window.

I'll keep working with it, but I'm starting to lean toward Media Monkey not being my best option.

The "Library" node is the entry right below "Now Playing" in the tree (left side of MM) that says "Library".

Ah, that works. I tried dropping them on the main track display screen when Library was selected, but not dropping them on the word "Library" itself. That seems counter-intuitive. Thanks for the tip.

MediaMonkey does not scan anything by itself, however it prompts the first time user if he/she wants to scan for music and it allows you to define where to scan or not scan at all.

Only Tools > Options > File Monitor can automatically scan for music without user initiation (besides user setting up the File Monitor of course).

Where, exactly are the File Scanning options? I have over 50,000 mp3's in my collection and it takes DAYS to scan all this over my NAS ...

There doesn't appear to be a File Monitoring option on my options screen
