how to "override" freedb?

Post by MiBSuM »

Hi,

some of my CDs are not properly listet in freedb. For example: "The bug" from "Dire Straits" (MaxiCD).
Freedb says it is "No-one but you" from "Queen". That's obviously wrong. (A bug.)

1.) Is it possible to correct such mistakes in freedb itself?
2.) What should I do to copy the CD properly to HD and into database? The default values are wrong. Should I grab into the wrong directory with wrong filenames and wrong tags? And after that change everything one by one?
There should be a better way.
Any ideas?
Thank you.
:D

It's not a fault. There are really some CDs which have the same Track #, Length, Offsets, ... but arent's the same.

You can add your CD to any of the other categories (rock, misc, ...) but it's not possible with MediaMonkey. Try CDex or EAC.

You can try using musicbrainz.

If the disc or disc ID is not in MB, then you can simply create a MB user account and add (or correct) the info yourself.

Thanks for your reply.
I tried musicbrainz. Also with a wrong Information.
And I also tried to edit freedb. A mail came back: "Discid collision in category rock"
So there is already a CD with the same number of tracks and the same length and so on. But why can't I yust add more to this one?
If I search for "No Doubt - Return of Saturn", there are four entries...
I will try to add it to an other category

Now, what can I do with question 2?

P.S. For other peole, who search for this topic:

You can add informations about a CD to freedb in many ways. One way:
Use audiograbber (freeware), fill out all the necessary fields, klick on "CD \ entry in freedb". That's all. Before sending, you can enter your email-address. So you will receive a note if there is a problem with your data.

When freedb returns more than one disc, MM should show a dialog with all of the results and allow you to choose which set you want to apply.

As far as #2, it depends really.

When you rip a cd, it utillzes the metadata that is displayed for the cd.

If that cd information is wrong, then your mp3s will have the wrong metadata/filenames. You can fix this manually after the fact, or you use fix the cd info before you rip so that your resulting files are correct.

If you already rip them, then one of the easist ways (IMO) to clean up your tags is via musicbrainz picard QT tagger (link in my sig).

Of course depending on your library, MB may or may not have the releases already in their database. If they are there, then it should be relatively straightforward to tag them using their tagger and then rescan the files with MM (or use file monitoring with the 'gold' registration).

The great thing about musicbrainz is that anyone can register an account and add/edit the information there.

Anyway, after your tags are the way you want (in either the cd itself or the ripped files), then you can use the 'auto-organize' to rename/move the ripped files.

The help file has alot of information about the file masks used for auto-organize and other features.
