[REQ] Clearing MM5 Search History [#18870]

Hello,

I would like to know how can I clear/reset the Search history of MM5? I can't seem to find a way. I have also looked in MediaMonkey.ini but I can't seem to find the Search history section. I did notice [SimpleSearch] but that was not it.

They are stored in the persistent.json file I think.

There is nothing too critical in that file, so it could be deleted. ... ie. during the beta, if the UI got bent out of shape. the advice was usually "delete the persistent.json file.

It is not entirely pain free because it stores a lot of current state info, like columns selected for display for each Collection, column widths, panel positions and geometry, etc, ... and I think it also stores specifications for any Custom Views that you have defined .... basically all of your configuration customisation probably.

There is also a persistent.json.bck file, so you may need to delete that also. That is probably ia hack workaround to avoid loss of some of the information if the main json file is deleted or corrupted, so maybe it would restore all the search criteria strings ... I don't know.

You could hunt through the xml and delete the search history. I suppose.

You would need to do any of these things while MM5 was closed. And I am not recommending them, and I have not tried it, although I did delete the persistent file many times during testing.

Or you could escalate the tone in this thread, to request that there a facility to clear search history. That's something i would support.

I would have guessed that it was of a fixed size, and that did its own housekeeping.
But my list currently has 466 entries. That not the round kind of number that I was looking for, so maybe not.

Which search history are you referring?
Do you refer the history in search bar ? i.e. auto-completion when you type something?

If yes, then this is stored within persistent.json file, search for "mruList" there and feel free to delete the values.

Yes, I am referring to the history in the search bar which auto-completes when I type something.

Could you please had a function, under in the search menu (Above Advance Search) like "Clear Search History"?

I wonder whether the clear search hostory is really desired, wouldn't it be better to just limit the number of the most recent search results e.g. to 50 ? Or what is exatly the point of clearing the history? Can you elaborate with an example why it is an issue for you?

Also related to search and search history, I would like an option to see only and all of my recent search history without first typing the first letter (as it was in MM4.) , and thus in MM5 history being limited to only items starting with that letter.

Am I missing something to have that available? This would probably only work with a limited amount of recent history being stored.

Does anyone know how the "search current view works? As soon as I have a limited view, the option disappears. When I have all tracks displayed the option exists, but seems unapplicable there.

What is the point of clearing browser history. What is the point of clearing application logs? What is the point clearing windows system history? What is the point of disabling recent file history in applications. I can go on an on. The point and isssue is for some users, we just want to reset our search to 0 every-time. It is not about whether it is really desired or not. The fact that we need to hunt for it in persistent.json is somewhat stupid.

OK, I figured out how "search current view works" once I switched to "Material Design" skin, which makes sense - the search box relocates next to the current tab button, thus indicating that will be searched.

Please include your MM5 version in your signature.
And if you address a specific AddOn, please also state the version.

The code-monkey skin originally came with mediamonkey.

Are you saying I need to find updates for the each of the skins separately from the mediamonkey updates??

ps - Under addons, check for updates showed 3.057 as no updates available

It's tedious to keep asking for versions.
It doesn't make sense to list bugs in old versions.
