How to search WITHIN playlist

Post by arindamc »

In MM4, whenever I would navigate to a playlist tab it would search only within that playlist, which was convenient. In MM5, every time I want to search ONLY WITHIN current playlist tab, I have to select the 'Current' view option from dropdown of search bar or else it would search my entire library; after I navigate to some other tab, that search bar sets back to Global. Not very convenient. Is there any solution?

As with so many things in MM5, it is easy, but very much not apparent or obvious.

After you have opened your playlist in the main window, you can just start typing your search term without first entering a search box at all - as you type, a new search box opens next to your tab, and you can keep typing or edit it there.

Similar to windows start dialog, new fashion I guess, you just start typing and it somehow decides you are trying to search. Blank interface, :D

Might be more apparent to the old fashioned like me if there was at least a magnifying glass to click on next to the current tab to cause the box to appear, .

Hi,
It is called inline search. and Search box is Global search.

We all got used to general UI (mm4) where you need to click on search -> select type of search and then do the search, where in MM5 you start typing to search within view, click on search to get global search and lastly right click on search icon -> Advanced to get full control of search.

Any suggestions are welcome.

So what did you think of the idea to place another magnifying glass next to the current tab, which would open local search box for those who can't imagine to just start typing without a box to type in??

And/or a menu item under "edit , search current view" just above global search?

I think more work definitely needs to be done on searching. In Party mode it should be intuitive how to search, but it definitely isn't at the moment.

Any coders out there, how difficult would it be to create an element that can be placed / moved in the user customisable layout, including a contextual/inline search box?

Hmmm, how about Search icon after last breadcrumb?

Maybe a toast message indicating that you can use typing for the contextual search (Filter matches / Scroll to match) ?
Once the toast message would be closed by its close button then it wouldn't appear again.
