[REQ] Using Album Rating as Filter [#19815]

Post by MisterFlix »

For albums, Mediamonkey calculates a rating based on the ratings of the songs in that album (presumably, an average). It would be really neat to be able to use this album rating in filters for Collections and Playlists.

Hi,
It would be time and resource consuming to add it as criteria due the fact that it would need to be calculated each time window refreshes.

That is especially hard on larger libraries:

Seems a disappointing dismissive answer.
The user may be more than happy to burn a few of their own cpu cycles to get something that is useful to themself.

I have only 45,000 tracks, aka 4185 whole albums.
This query takes just 478 milliseconds on my computer.
It probably runs quite quickly on your monster collection also?
That doesn't seem too ''hard" to me.

It could be considered for playlist criteria at least, IMO. That alone would probably make the OP much happier with MM5
Want a dark skin for MM5? This is the one that works best for me .. elegant, compact & clear.

Admittedly, I don't know how exactly MM's database is structured, but wouldn't it be possible to recalculate the value of an album only if a rating within it changes, and then save that in a new db field for albums (or the album's tracks, whichever makes more sense)? Heck, this could even be optional, although I doubt that this will suck much of the computing power.

And yes, as Barry4679 pointed out, even if it is a calculation that has to be done every time the view is opened (is there no caching?), that would be at the behest of any users who wishes to use that particular filter.

Hi,
I apologize and I agree at least it deserves further analyze for inclusion in MM.

Thank you all for patience and reasoning I added the request as https://www.ventismedia.com/mantis/view.php?id=19815
