Music location question

Hi,
I'm new to MM and have a basic question:

I am bringing my music over to my new pc via USB.
When I have MM scan the USB drive to add the music, does it save the music somewhere or simply add it to the library?

It looks to me like the path is simply to the USB, which of course will not work since the USB will be removed.
Am I correct I need to add all of my music to a permanent location first, and then scan it with MM?

That's correct. You can either copy/move files first, then scan or you can move files with MediaMonkey.
