How do you save playlists made within iphone onto mediamonkey to then transfer into new iphone?

Post by sonicobama »

Recently bought a new iphone so it's time to sync my whole music library, but I'm having trouble saving the playlists I made with my old iphone onto mediamonkey so I can then sync those playlists onto the new phone.

I've never used itunes to sync my music and have always synced using MM, my playlists made in the old iphone show up in MM under my devices but when I select those tracks to send to a new playlist within MM nothing shows up?

I hope I'm explaining it well, I feel like it shouldn't be this tricky

Ok so I tried updating the tags but it says "tag update failed: /itunes_control/music/F01/_En5.mp3 is inaccessible"

any thoughts on this?

Can you Auto-Organize, skipping the tagging step (test a few files)? Do you have the needed tags doing this?

When I go into organize a menu pops up that shows me 2 columns the "new path" and "old path" with those /itune_control/ commands

there's 2 options: "move and rename files to new destination based on file tags"
"copy files to new destination based off new tags"

I've tried both options but nothing happens

Did you set the new Path Mask to a drive within your PC?

No, I wouldn't know where to set the new path? I'm just trying to copy the playlists I made in my iphone onto mediamonkey so I can then sync them into my new phone :(

Am I gonna need to make duplicates in order to be able to save these playlists? Somebody on reddit said:

"Add a subfolder to the folder that your MM files are in, call it whatever you want. Move or copy your playlist to that subfolder (just make sure it's in m3u format). Open MM, go to file, go to "add rescan for new files (INS)". In the media tree (View, Media Tree) you should be able to see your imported playlist in the playlist branch (Imported). Then sync from your phone. And your playlist should be listed in the same order. Just make sure the playlist is M3U."

I followed these steps and the m3u playlists show up on MM but it's empty when selected, is this why I need to organize files?

If imported playlists shows empty it normally means that the Paths for files on the Playlist are invalid. You can check this by opening the Playlist file(s) in any text editor (like Notepad).

ok I followed the steps from the wiki on how to organize files but it only made a copy of the file into the new folder I created. When I rescan my library only the imported m3u playlist shows still empty even when there's duplicated files with the new path to that newly created folder.

I'm not sure if we're understanding each other. I feel like what I'm trying to do is not correct, it shouldn't be this difficult to copy the metadata of the playlists I made in my iphone onto MM. I need a video tutorial because it's difficult to do this over text with no visuals.

Or please explain this to me like a 5 year old. I would greatly appreciate it.

Unfortunately it's that hard with Apple. Does Apple not have a transfer device mechanism?
