Open database within MMW4

Is there a way within MMW4 to open a different database than the default? A Google search said holding Shift while launching MM4 opens a dialog that allows the selection of a MM database, but that didn’t work for me. I suppose I could change the one currently in the %APPDATA% folder; just wondered if there was another way. The older backup DB I want to open contains metadata (e.g., Date Added) that somehow got overwritten in later versions; I just want to inspect it without MM4 changing anything in it.

On another subject, there really needs to be an option to search for strings on this site rather than individual words. A search for “open database” (with or without quotes) returns a boatload of hits with either of those words, in which what I’m looking for is impossible to find.

No, there isn't another way. You could do a Portable Install to have another instance of MediaMonkey for your other database.

OK, thanks; I’ll replace my current default MM.db in %APPDATA%\MediaMonkey with the other one I want it to open with. But I have a follow-up question. When I launch MM4 with this older DB, I don’t want it to do any scanning or writing to it. I’ve turned off all “Scan at startup” and “Scan continuously” settings in my current default DB, but don’t know if that instruction will also apply to this older DB, which has a similar file structure. To be completely safe, could I just tick its Read-only box before launching MM4 with it?

I doubt MediaMonkey will like a read-only database.
I'd suggest using a copy so the original remains untouched.
