A question

Post by ScorpyOh »

First off, this is one great program! I'm really thinking of buying it but have a question before I take the plunge.

I have a large MP3 collection spanned across 188 CDs that I'd been keeping a database on with an older mp3 cataloger called MP3Database by Marc Schillings, that used to work great while I was using win98se but since getting a new pc with XP on it, MP3Database refuses to even load (it's no longer in development either).

It had one great feature where I could select a directory that contained mp3s and MP3Database would compare the unknown mp3s with the database and delete any duplicates - does Songs-DB have anything similar to that? It wouldn't directly add the mp3s to the library - it would just do a pre-scan for duplicates? Since I am adding already indexed CDs it won't become an issue for a few days until I get everything settled into Songs-DB but was just wondering ahead of time. :)

TIA

That depends on what you mean by duplicates. Songs-DB can show you either songs with duplicate artist and titles (node Miscellaneous/Duplicate song names) or songs with exactly duplicate audio data redardless their filenames and tags (node Miscellaneous/Duplicate song content, an option must be on in the Setup dialog). Both these features work for scanned songs only, but it is not a problem, after you locate duplicates you can decide what to do (remove from database, remove from disk, ...).

If you need something else, let me know.
